Mother, three children wounded in Jerusalem terror attack
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=JPost/A/JPArticle/ShowFull&cid=1059884679528

Four Israelis, a mother and three children were wounded when shots were fired at their vehicle near Wallajeh, close to the western entrance to the Har Gilo neighborhood on Sunday evening. The attack occurred just hours after the government announced its intention to release 430 Palestinian security prisoners. The family was traveling on the Wallajeh bypass road that links Gush Etzion to south Jerusalem not far from the Malha Mall and the Technological Gardens.

Magen David Adom official Zaki Heller said crews sent to the site treated a 39-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and her 9-year-old daughter, who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

The two, whose conditions were described as serious to moderate, were transferred to Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem.

Two other children, a 14-year-old girl and her twelve-year-old brother, were treated at the site. The teenager was later transferred to hospital.

Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades claimed responsibility for the shooting in a phone call to The Associated Press.

1. Hmm...
This should be another headline:

Mother, Three Children Starving as a Result of West Bank Terrorist Wall

Don't get me wrong; I condemn this attack, despite the fact that it was targeted at settlers. I also condemn the construction of an enormous wall on the territory of the Palestinians.

Any of the women and children.
It's good he was a lousy shot.
I hope they catch him.

allow me ask you a question

if the terrorists attacks continue and the
PA/PLO do NOT do what they promised to do and
"DISMANTLE" these thugs, what do you think Israel
response to these attacks should be??

6. They did not promise to dismantle these thugs.
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 07:04 PM by bemildred
They have said repeatedly that they will work to stop the
violence, but they will not go to war with their own people,
as that would be a stupid an fruitless enterprise.

Although, in the end they will have to, you can't have these
sorts of gangs running around in a sovereign state.

Israel should do everything in its power to help Abbas, IMHO,
regardless of what these thugs do, unless it is happy with the
present situation.

Edit: happy with the intifada.

17. It doesn't need to be humanitarian to serve its purpose...
It can be built on the Green Line, and we can have a permanent solution to this-it's called Peace. P-E-A-C-E.

P-E-A-C-E when the vast majority of the S-E-T-T-L-E-M-E-N-T-S are removed and the Palestinians get a S-T-A-T-E! In addition to that, the Palestinians do need to enter a security cooperation treaty with the Israelis so terrorists on both sides can be quickly apprehended.

36. The Green Line
Has not been established as a formal border between Israel and a theoretical Palestinian state. You can thank Arafat's rejection of various peace plans for that one.

Nor will ALL of the pre-1967 land ever end up in Palestinian hands. So the questions are, how much land will the Palestinians get and which land. The longer they wait to settle on peace, the more those questions are decided for them.

45. But tinnypriv has the facts on his side...
Tinnypriv's totally correct when he points out that beyond the Green Line isn't Israel. I guess for anyone to argue otherwise, they'd have to ignore international law and rely on all sorts of religious mumbo-jumbo and 'historical' claims so favoured by conservatives dating back thousands of years when it comes to Jerusalem....

So why do you see the West Bank as being part of Israel? Is it a Might Makes Right 'they conquered it, so they get it' kind of thing?

Violet...

41. The "road map" uses the word dismantle twice.
Edited on Mon Aug-04-03 02:50 PM by bemildred
I checked it on both Jewish and Palestinian propaganda sites
to be sure. Both are in the Phase one section.

Security:

* Rebuilt and refocused Palestinian Authority security apparatus
begins
sustained, targeted, and effective operations aimed at confronting all those
engaged in terror and dismantlement of terrorist capabilities and infrastructure.
This includes
commencing confiscation of illegal weapons and consolidation
of security authority, free of association with terror and corruption.

Settlements:

* GOI
immediately dismantles settlement outposts erected since March 2001.

* Consistent with the Mitchell Report, GOI freezes
all settlement activity
(including natural growth of settlements).

but what I don't get is why it isn't being built on the Green Line. Then, I could accept it-under the condition that is in conjunction with a peace plan.

The border is to be negotiated. It will almost certainly not be the Green Line. Building the fence there would make a needless concession and embolden terrorists.

to build it on the Green Line? Even if it does, it will let thousands of innocent Palestinians live their lives in peace. I think the risk of emboldening terrorists can be taken in trade for respecting the inherent human rights of thousands of Palestinians.

but when you agree to a ceasefire you actually have to quit shooting for it to be respected and taken seriously, I mean it's bullshit to kill women and children over it and the targeting sucks but what exactly did they think was going to happen when they started arresting Al-Aqsa during a ceasefire?
