11 Wounded in West Bank Barrier Protest, Witnesses Say
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=4060150

<snip>

"Israeli troops on Wednesday shot and wounded 10 Palestinians and one Israeli involved in a protest at a construction site for Israel's controversial barrier in the West Bank, witnesses said.
The incident, outside the Palestinian village of Burdos near Ramallah, was the second time in five days that the army opened fire at demonstrators gathered by the barrier. On December 26, troops shot and wounded a young Israeli and an American.

Jonathan Pollak, a member of the Israeli Anarchists against the Wall group, said soldiers fired toward around 500 mostly Palestinian protesters as well as Israelis and foreigners near bulldozers turning over ground for an extension of the barrier.

He said 10 Palestinians were hit and taken off for hospital treatment while an Israeli woman was slightly wounded in the leg."

1. Did the article mention the Israelis were using live ammo?
Yep. The Israelis are now using live ammo against unarmed non-violent demonstrators.

It was on Democracy Now this morning.

2. the article didn't specifically say it, but
... whenever they just say "opened fire" without saying rubber bullets or non-lethal armaments, i think it's safe to assume it means live ammo - which is after all still the default.

5. No live ammo used
IDF sources said in response to the incident that soldiers had used "non-lethal means," and not live ammunition, to disperse the protesters.

...how dare reuters quote this anarchist freak. What's up with that? I don't want to hear what he has to say. It's not like he was there and witnessed the shootings or anything. I want to hear what the official Israeli spokesman has to say. Then we're sure to get the truth. :eyes:
