Mother fights Israel for answers
Al Jazeera

The mother of a British peace activist shot in the head by Israeli soldiers says she will continue her fight to find justice for her son.

Tom Hurndall, 22, a photographer from London was recording the work of a peace group in Rafah, Gaza when he came under fire from Israeli soldiers.

He was shot on 11 April after going to help a Palestinian child when Israeli soldiers opened fire in the direction of the boy.

Jocelyn Hurndall, spoke to Aljazeera.net on the week that the family marked Tom's 22nd birthday. She says that the entire family feels devastated by what has happened to Tom but they will keep pushing for answers from the Israeli government on how and why Tom was targeted.

"We are following a long legal process to find out how Tom was injured. I want the Israeli soldiers responsible for harming Tom to know that they can't shoot people with impunity. We want to pave the way for Palestinian people to have some legal redress when they are shot and injured by the Israeli army just like my son was".

2. It's a tremendous tragedy,
because Jews have suffered so much throughout history, more than any other people combined, and the majority of Israelis are good people who don't want their government to do the same thing to others that has been done to them so many times over the centuries. I

had an Israeli friend in college who told me recently that the country has turned away from the nation that it was supposed to be, and has become what Jews have historically fought against.

It really is a sad, tremendous tragedy, and it gives ammunition to those nutballs who harbor hatred for and bias against Jews and Judaism. And I really resent our own government's constant kowtowing to Israel, even at the expense of our own citizens and our own safety. If it weren't for the U.S. and our blind support and money, there would be no Israel, and yet they seem to sometimes forget that.

4. yeah well
The U.S. needs an offshore military base. Considerations of right and wrong obviously don't matter much.

9. Open letter to Ms. Hurndall...
Edited on Sat Dec-13-03 08:01 AM by drdon326

First I am sorry for your predicament and your sons
condition. Unfortunately my sorrow is tempered by a number
of facts.

Apparently HE made the final decision to enter a war zone
after being brainwashed by so-called peace activists called
the ISM. The ISM , which hopefully you know now, used your son
to furthur their perverse political and sadly military ends.
Quite frankly, the ISM hit the 'mother load' when he was injured
and they had still another propaganda ploy to use.

And what was your role , Ms.Hurndall ,in your sons decision
to enter a war zone?

Did you know where he was going?
If you knew, did you encourage or dissuade him from going?

It appears you share some of the same unfortunate views of Toms
sponsors, the ISM:

"I want the Israeli soldiers responsible for harming Tom to know that they can't shoot people with impunity. We want to pave the way for Palestinian people to have some legal redress when they are shot and injured by the Israeli army just like my son was".

no Ms. Hurndall, you bear some responsibility as well as the lying
ISM who used your son. The " israeli soldiers" you decry are protecting their people against whom your sons sponsors were and are
assisting. Perhaps some self-evaluation on your part is in order before you point fingers.

I understand that the israeli govt is assisting financially in
his care. And despite your obvious anger against the israeli govt
you have accepted the assistance. Tell me , ms. hurndall, how much
support have you received from the ISM after they used him as a
disposable political pawn??

in any case, i pray for your sons full recovery and wish you well.

10. This letter is BS
along with being insulting to the peace movement. It's tone is everything but progressive, which does not surprise me at all...

14. Oh, really?
I hardly consider the objectives of the ISM to be a "perverse agenda", considering they're attempting to stop the destruction of entire villages just so the illegal settlements can help themselves to the olive groves, water resources, and land of the displaces Palestinians who've done nothing wrong except have the nerve to live on their own land. Not all Palestinians are terrorists, just like not all Israelis are perfect angels.

17. I am not, and have never been,
into "mindless propaganda." I suggest that YOU do some more research into the ISM before applying the terms "perverse agenda" and "mindless propaganda" to it. You have the right to believe or disbelieve anything you want, though, so be it.
