French document: Ma'ale Adumim part of 'Occupied Palestine'
Resident of city near Jerusalem finds 'Occupied Palestinian Territory' listed under state of residence on his temporary French passport; FM to demand French gov't to revise wording

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4146337,00.html

<snip>

"A 21-year-old resident of Ma'ale Adumim who also holds a French citizenship was surprised to find "Occupied Palestinian Territory" listed under the state of residence on his temporary French passport recently.

Eddy, a resident of Maale Adumim who was born in Israel to French immigrants, applied for a French passport intending to go study there. He completed the paperwork and was issued a temporary travel document. On his way home from the consulate in Jerusalem, he noticed something strange.

"It had all my details, my identification number, my address – Ma'ale Adumim – but the State of Israel was omitted," Eddy told Ynet.

"It's infuriating," he added. "I wanted to go back there and tell them I don't need their passport. I knew that the French were anti-Semitic, and I wouldn't have been surprised if they wrote 'Ma'ale Adumim, Palestine,' but they chose the harsh wording of 'Occupied Palestine.'"

Ynet has learned that Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman intends to send the French government a harsh letter of protest, demanding it to remove the label."

11. your post #5 really does not apply to my comment or the one it was in reply to
my comment was meant to ask the obvious that being if France is so antisemitic why did this young man wish to go there in the first place?

Another question is this a unique situation, has France in the past had Israel on its passports as the country for settlements in the OPT is this something new?

4. Oh, poor baby.
If France is so anti-semitic, then why does he even want French citizenship? Why can't he just continue living in Israel and/or Occupied Palestine?

5. So that is your solution to French antisemitism?
Jews should leave France and move to the Jewish State?

Well when Ariel Sharon suggested this ,France had a hissy fit.

13. Ma'ale Adumim isn't in Israel...
It's in the occupied West Bank.

And yr claim that there are DUers in this forum who believe that Israel itself is occupied territory is completely untrue....

10. Which is why we need BDS and other forms of pressure on Israel,
and why claims that the problem is Palestinian rejectionism and not Israeli occupation are absurd.

14. Just to clarify my post.
I do not in fact think that France is an anti-semitic society (though I'm not denying that anti-semitism exists there). I think that this young man's characterization of French passport policy vis a vis occupied Palestinian territory is yet another abuse of the term which is cheapening its meaning and making it lose credibility, even in those instances in which its use is truly valid.

I don't believe "Jews should leave France to escape French anti-semitism". I do believe that those who are also citizens of Israel, and who believe "French diplomatic positions concerning Israel/Palestine = anti-semitism" might be better off choosing not to live in a state which they believe to be anti-semitic.

Personally, I wish they would just drop all this drama, formally annex the OT, and make all persons living there citizens of the same state and with equal rights.
