Settlers, Palestinians gather to discuss peace
A few dozen settlers and Palestinians, members of the Land of Peace movement, met on Tuesday at the West Bank outpost of Migron in an attempt to mend the rifts. The group toured the ruins of the structures razed by Civil Administration forces on Monday, a measure that prompted settlers to riot and lead to the arrests of six teens.

"I understand the people of Migron," a Palestinian resident of a Hebron vicinity village said. "Homes were destroyed at my village on several occasions as well. Razing doesn't lead to security. We must learn to live together."

Migron residents were not in attendance at the gathering, although the outpost's founder said he would have been happy to come if he would have been invited.

"This might not be the best time to make amends, but we have nothing against our Palestinian neighbors," said Itay Harel. "In fact, we used to live in great coexistence."

1. Narrative killer. Settlers aren't portrayed as evil subhumans, therefore this is not newsworthy....

Those who genuinely wish for peace in the ME should demand more stories like this be reported, not suppressed or censored. I doubt any major news media will pick this up...

More from this uplifiting article:

"Political conclusions on how to solve the conflict did not come out of it, but this was an important gathering," Pachenik said. "I told them that if we would all lie on the ground and listen quietly, we would hear it crying over the spilled blood of the sons of Abraham.

"Suddenly they realized that they have someone to talk to. The tour was concluded with a powerful statement made by one of the town's senior officials. He said that 'with settlers like these, we can make peace.'"

2. Actually, according to you they are Nazis and Hitler's little helpers...
since many of them are advocates of a one-state solution, and since you seem to believe that anyone of that opinion is a Nazi (at least if they come from the Left):-

http://www.haaretz.com/weekend/magazine/endgame-1.302128

"It's an idea for solving the conflict that sounds like a vision of the end of days: Grant Israeli citizenship and equal rights to all the Palestinians in the West Bank. And who is proposing the one-state solution? Right-wingers and settlers"

Granted, of course, I don't expect you to maintain consistency in your scribbling, dribbling screeds of bullshit from day to day but I thought I should point this out to you anyway.

3. I don't demonize whole groups...

Also, the nuttiest rightwing settlers for one greater state are still Zionists who believe Jews have a right to their own homeland, free from persecution to be themselves. They couldn't be more wrong but they're not antisemitic activists who share David Duke and Hamas' hatred, so they're certainly not Nazis.

4. Right. So right wingers are not anti-semites but leftists are...
just out of interest, are there any leftist advocates of a one-state solution who are not Nazis, or are they all automatically lumped in with David Duke?

5. David Duke, Pat Buchanon, Hamas, Hezbollah, Neturei Karta, etc...are RW'rs and antisemites.

Leftist useful idiots for 1 state aren't necessarily antisemites and can be given the benefit of the doubt.

Those who know what a 1 state solution will result in and know it's a nightmare but still advocate for it are antisemites who happen to also loathe Palestinians, seeing them as useful political pawns.

6. So the settlers are either anti-Semites or idiots?
Edited on Wed Sep-07-11 09:51 PM by shaayecanaan
because if they advocate for a one-state solution knowing what will result from it they are anti-Semites, but if they advocate for a one-state solution not knowing what will come from it then they are fools?

From which group are the settlers in your OP? Anti-semites or idiots?

7. No, there are different types of 1 state solutions.
Edited on Wed Sep-07-11 09:25 PM by shira
The settlers for one state are for Israel annexing the WB...

a) and expelling all Palestinians
b) and limiting the voting rights of Palestinians.
c) and giving Palestinians there full voting rights.

In any scenario, Zionism is ensured.

We both know what the rightwing Hamas, Hezbollah, PLO version of 1 state and full RoR means.

8. Actually, most of the left-wing advocates of a one-state solution...
advocate a South Africa-style system where Jews would be ensured a certain amount of representation in the Knesset, irrespective of demographic shifts. Edward Said was a proponent of this.

So you accept that such a course of action is neither idiotic nor anti-Semitic?

15. But not antisemitic, right?
Unless of course, you want to lump in the settlers as antisemites as well.

18. Neither idiotic nor antisemitic, just impossible right now.
And demanding the impossible in politics generally leads to what we don't want, i.e. war.

for her, just about everyone on the left is a Nazi, ultimately, as far as I can tell.

Here's just the latest:

PA TV host sends "best wishes" to "our glorious" prisoner who transported suicide bomber to attack that killed 15, including 7 children
http://www.pmw.org.il/main.aspx?fi=157&doc_id=5581

Would you call the PA/PLO and all their western anti-Israel apologists 'Leftists'?

=======

You have me all wrong. You're assuming I'm calling 'Leftists' Nazis all the time. What on earth makes you believe that I think they're Leftists? Because they say so? Those who support Nazi style agendas couldn't be more further to the Right.

17. A most interesting story - thanks for posting.
Here's more about this group:

Sadly, peace activities rarely make the mainstream news the way that violence does.

And to everyone: I REALLY don't think there are many here who think that all settlers are 'subhuman' or that Palestinians or leftists are Nazis. Why do so many threads degenerate so quickly into such accusations?

True, there might not be too many people with these views, but there are certainly a couple here and there.
