New aid convoy sets off for Gaza
A new convoy of vehicles has set off from the UK carrying humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza, more than three months after nine people were killed in another attempt to break an Israeli blockade on the Strip.

The Viva Palestina 5 convoy, which departed from London on Saturday, will be joined by participants from a number of countries before it eventually attempts to cross the Rafah border from Egypt into the besieged Palestinian territory.
...
Members of the convoy have planned to hold a remembrance ceremony as they pass the spot where Israeli troops conducted a deadly raid on another aid flotilla destined for Gaza on May 31.
...
"Far from deterring people from seeking to bring that siege to an end, the Israeli assault on the Freedom Flotilla is spurring on even more people to bring humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and to end the blockade," the group said in a statement on its website http://www.vivapalestina.org/vp5/intro.html .

1. One has to accept the blockade as legal which it is...
these supposed 'aid' convoys, flotillas, light plane incursions have the primary purpose of 'breaking' the blockade. That is why they will continue to fail.

The two links above are overblown and inaccurate in many respects. One claims that 500 trucks will participate...but only 15 trucks will leave the UK. The other article says up to 150 trucks. Ummm, which is it? Sort of like an adult-sponsored 'children's crusade.' We all know what happened to that.

Items for transport: medical supplies, educational materials, material to rebuild a damaged mosque(the mosque is more important than fixing the water treatment plant), materials for a maternity ward in northern Gaza and a bit more.

One of the articles complains about the on/off state of electrical production in Gaza. The lack of fuel for the generating plant. The PA turned off the flow of fuel because HAMAS has not paid the bill. Sewage treatment: proposed was a pipeline to the sea where raw sewage was to be dumped. HAMAS stole the pipe for the pipeline for the manufacture of rocket bodies. If sea is contaminated, then the new water desalinization plant will not be able to operate. Seems a case of cutting off one's nose to spite one's face, nicht wahr?

Further, if the sea is contaminated then the fish taken from that sea will be contaminated as well. The whole endeavor is ill-planned from the start and will solve no problems--only add to the existing ones.

Want fuel oil? Tell HAMAS to pay the overdue oil bill. HAMAS runs Gaza. They can change things. Will they?
