Hamas: PA can't give up Jerusalem in direct Mideast peace talks
Speaking in Ramadan fast-breaking meal in the Gaza town of Khan Younis late Thursday, Haniyeh claimed that "no negotiator who would give up Jerusalem has a national mandate," adding that "Palestinians across the globe will not support any movement holding absurd talks with Israel."

The Hamas prime minister, referring to the Palestinian prisoners' families present at the meal, said that the "prisoners, the injured and the families of martyrs will not authorize anyone who wants to give up Palestine and Jerusalem after they have sacrificed for years and struggled to keep it."

"The occupation has failed to break the will of the Palestinian people, not by increasing its attacks or increasing the number of dead, not by injuring prisoners or isolating the resistance from its people," the Hamas leader said.

"Israel is trying in dozens of ways to achieve its goal, and now it is through negotiations," Haniyeh added, saying that next upcoming negotiations were the latest in a long list of Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people.

On Monday, Haniyeh said the Palestinian people will gain nothing from direct Middle East peace talks with Israel.

The obvious question is that if Hamas rejects negotiations with Israel as illegitimate then what exactly would they consider to be an acceptable method for ending the conflict?

1. Gosh. One would almost think they don't want peace.
But that can't be true, since peace would end the suffering of their people. Unless, of course, people who strap bombs to teenagers and then go home to eat their dinner don't actually care about the suffering of their people.

Be sure to say HI! when the next flotilla lands. And thank them again for saving that lion.

2. How is that different from Israel's refusal to share Jerusalem?
Both Hamas and the govt of Nuttyahoo are extremists who aren't the slightest bit interested in what's best for their own populations...

3. How is it different?
Well, for one Bibi is going to be negotiating for a permanent peace treaty. While Hamas is saying that negotiations themselves are a crime against the Palestinian people.

Both Hamas and the govt of Nuttyahoo are extremists who aren't the slightest bit interested in what's best for their own populations...

Ah but only Hamas solidified its hold on power via a violent coup. If the Israelis decide that Bibi doesn't represent their interests they can get rid of him.

5. Are you trying to claim that Israel is interested in sharing Jerusalem or even having a real peace?
They're not. So what if Nutty claims (and let's not forget he's a complete liar) he's negotiating for a permanent peace treaty and that 'permanent peace' means taking all of Jerusalem and controlling most of the West Bank and continuing to build settlements while he enters into 'talks' about a so-called 'permanent peace'. At least Hamas are more honest...

Are you disagreeing that the govt of Nuttyahoo are extremists who aren't the slightest bit interested in what's best for their population? It's just that you spoke instead of how each govt gained power, something that has nothing at all to do with what I pointed out.

9. The conclusion is flawed
PLO is recognized as an NGO and is not the recognized provisional government of the Palestinians, which is the PA. Abbas has more authority than anyone else to give away Jerusalem. At least as much as Arafat who claimed it.

17. Because as you have been plainly shown the PLO handles international
negotiations and the PA handles domestic and both come under the PNC

13. Perhaps you should read this item
PLO agrees to indirect talks with Israel

RAMALLAH, West Bank — Palestinian leaders gave their backing for indirect peace talks with Israel, clearing the way for the Obama administration's first sustained on-the-ground Mideast peace effort.

U.S. Mideast envoy George Mitchell will now shuttle between the Israeli and Palestinian leaders for up to four months to try to narrow the vast gaps on the terms of Palestinian statehood.

15. That the PLO remains a serious player is quite true, as is Fatah and Hamas
however, the recognized government is the PA
