Hamas prevents flotilla aid from entering Gaza
More than a week after the Israeli navy forcibly intercepted a flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, the 10,000-ton cargo of the seven ships has yet to reach Palestinians.

Israel and the radical Islamist Hamas movement in control of Gaza blamed each other Tuesday for the aid not reaching its destination.

Major Guy Inbar, the Israeli military official charged with liaising with Palestinian officials told the German Press Agency dpa that Hamas was refusing to allow the aid in through Israeli-controlled border crossings over land.

He said Israel had already sent eight truckloads of goods, including electric wheelchairs, to its Kerem Shalom crossing with the southern Gaza Strip last Tuesday, a day after the raid on the flotilla in international waters off Gaza. Nine Turkish activists were killed when the interception of the Turkish Mavi Marmara turned violent.

1. So why is Hamas preventing aid from reaching Palestinians? Don't Palestinians need this aid badly?

4. If it's true
Problem is, there is no one to verify what Israel says is the truth. They tell us what they want us to hear.

10. No, that's not the issue at all. Heeretz puts out a lot of things
without verifying them. Sometimes they turn out to be right, other times, not so much.

5. Hamas gets credit from Palestinians by sticking it to Israel not from good governance
Its easier to fight than to solve economic and polotical problems

6. are the Israeli's still detaining any of the activists?
Hamas said that the cargo would be refused until all of the activists were freed albeit their concern over the condition of the cargo is also valid

another question is Hamas refusing all aid or just that from the flotilla? and one must take into acount Egypt's opening of the border at Rafah

but this like so many antiPalestinian posts relies entirely of the ignorance of reader for it's purpose of "outrage" to work.

8. From OP....aid includes expired medicine
"He noted that "a lot of the medicine" on board had expiry dates that had already passed, including February 2009, April 2009, May 2009 and November 2009."

19. Looks like old, worn clothes / shoes not fit for flea markets were part of this "aid"
Edited on Fri Jun-11-10 06:14 AM by shira
Clothing and shoes: most of the clothes and shoes were so worn that they cannot be used. Many of the shoes had holes and the shoe soles were half broken; many of the clothes were torn. They were private donations and were just thrown on to the ship.

Shows how much these 'peace activists' really care about the suffering people of Gaza.

12. People here hate stories like this.
Anything that doesn't portray the conflict as 100% the fault of Israel is unwelcome here.

Robbing the zionists of any cheap PR from such empty gestures is perfectly fine, since they 'offer' nothing but headlines and self-congratulations anyway.

Since you're all about the "well where is this/that voice in this particular thread" line of asinine argument, I notice most of the hasbara battalion missing from the new video threads. What, haven't received the talking points yet?

20. The umpire has ruled that charging the mound is not only permitted, but mandatory
addendum: bat in hand optional, but recommended.
