Egypt Dismisses Israel's 'Laughable' Scud Claims
Egyptian FM says Israeli allegations against Syria, Lebanon's Hezbollah mount to 'lies'.

BEIRUT - Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit dismissed as "laughable" on Saturday US and Israeli fears that Syria has been supplying Lebanese militant group Hezbollah with Scud missiles.

"These allegations are lies and are laughable," Abul Gheit told reporters in Beirut as he began an official visit.

"Egypt stands by Lebanon under all conditions and in the face of all threats," he added.

Earlier this month, Israeli President Shimon Peres accused Syria of arming Hezbollah with Scuds, a charge Damascus has strongly denied.

Washington has stopped short of openly accusing Damascus of supplying Hezbollah with the missiles, but has said Syria has been providing the group with a "wider array" of weaponry.

1. There's another segment of his speech
that your link failed to mention:

Following talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Foreign Minister 'Ali Al-Shami, Aboul Gheit was asked whether he was visiting Beirut in order to convey a warning from Israel.

The Egyptian minister said in response that the purpose of his trip was not to relay messages "from the enemy to a sister Arab state."

You know, I can't help but try to imagine the outrage if Lieberman had said something like this...

2. the definition of enemy
The Israeli blitzkrieg on Lebanon in 2006 killed over 1,000 people, mostly Lebanese civilians, severely damaged Lebanese civil infrastructure (much newly rebuilt), and displaced approximately one million Lebanese (many of whom remain homeless because after the ceasefire, some parts of southern Lebanon remained uninhabitable due to Israeli unexploded cluster bomblets).

Just in passing, do you know any Lebanese Americans or have any knowledge of Lebanese history?

we're talking about an Egyptian minister?

Or do you mean to imply that an attack against Lebanon is an attack against all Arab states? If so, does the opposite apply? Is Egypt culpable for Hizbullah's initiation of the war?

As for Lebenese-Americans - I know precious few Americans total, so no. What does that have to do with anything?
