WASHINGTON - Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon insisted yesterday that construction will continue on a 'security fence' snaking through the West Bank, despite sharp objections from the United States and the Palestinians.

Sharon met President George W. Bush at the White House, just three days after Mr Bush said he had a "problem" with the boundary, which Israel says it needs to keep out radicals bent on launching terrorist attacks.

"The security fence will continue to be built with every effort to minimise the infringement on the daily life of the Palestinian population," said Sharon, in a joint Press appearance with Mr Bush during his eighth visit to the White House as Prime Minister.

The US and Europe are under a watch for airline hijacking. Maybe you should remove those security checks that inconvenience travelers so much. Maybe you should stop screening passengers, and just let everyone buy a ticket and take a ride. No passports, no visas necessary. It's just an encumbrance, after all. The true security threat to Israel is the state of mind of many Palestinians. The wall (annexation) only makes things worse in the short and long term, just as it is intended to do.

How can Israel annex land that already is a part of Israel? Is there a Palestinian state? Is there a recognized border? No. None exists. The green line itself is an illusion.

The fence is a structure for defense, not a border. The border is yet to be determined once the violence stops. Dismantle the terror organizations, as part of the Road Map, then the fence/wall will be dismantled.
