'Israelis no longer allowed in Dubai after Hamas hit'
<snip>

"Dubai's police chief said on Monday that travelers suspected of being Israeli will not be allowed into the United Arab Emirates even if they arrive with alternative passports.

Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim says the move comes after the killing of a Hamas operative in Dubai, blamed by the Emirates authorities on Israel's Mossad spy agency."

<snip>

"The Emirates will now deny entry to anyone suspected of having Israeli citizenship, Tamim said at a security conference in Abu Dhabi Monday.

It was unclear if the measure would apply to Israeli athletes competing in international sports events being held there, such as tennis player Shahar Peer, a recent semifinalist in the local WTA tennis tournament.

The comment came as earlier, Tamim had charged Mossad with insulting Dubai as well as countries whose forged passports were used by its agents in the assassination of a Hamas military commander last month.

The Dubai police chief also said a 27th member of the team that killed Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in his hotel room last month had been identified, saying only that she was a woman.

"Mossad shouldn't come to us. We haven't done anything to Israel. This is an insult to us, to Britain, to Australia, to Germany and to New Zealand and it's shameful," Tamim told reporters in Dubai, a member of the United Arab Emirates."

3. It seems that they performed a clandestine mission
in a clandestine manner.

Perhaps they should have walked in with big yellow armbands emblazoned with a Magen David?

Yeah...that's the ticket...

4. At least the bigotry is only contained to Israelis.
I guess it is some sort of progress.

7. no, the bigotry is definitely aimed at Jews. Here's the Arabic press release:
Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 07:30 AM by shira
"He added that the vanity which haunts the "Israeli" mentality stems from the time of Pharaoh, and their hate comes up to this day and age.

He said that the entire world should study the mentality of the "Israeli" leaders throughout history. Their sick psyches needs to be analyzed by psychology professors, who need to examine why they launch crises, and why they brought on themselves hate from others, since the time of Moses, peace be upon him.

He said we will train our personnel in the passport of the forms and features of the Jewish people and their names, noting that no one can hide their features of Jewishness. He asked the appropriate departments to prepare nationality and residency sessions to familiarize the staff with forms and names, especially since most Jews hold dual passports

He pointed out that the number of Jews, compared with the Europeans, is nothing, and even within Palestine itself."

Replace Jew with Israeli and this statement magically becomes anti-zionist rather than antisemitic. :eyes:

Now let's all keep pretending the Dubai investigative team's "findings" and statements are on the up-and-up, okay?

I would be all for Dubai prohibiting anyone from entering their so called country.

6. People traveling on Israeli passports already weren't allowed in.
With notable exceptions and special permission granted, as required: athletes, diplomats, etc.

If you've traveled to Israel and your non-Israeli passport's been stamped in Israel, that's okay.

This is a further application of the already very restrictive rules: Now if they merely suspect that you're Israeli but a dual citizen traveling on a non-Israeli passport, you get extra scrutiny. (One wonders how they'll do that, of course--Jewish accents, Jewish features, wearing of hai- or star-of-David-themed jewelry, suspicious sounding last names?) Of course, the extra scrutiny also (properly) applies to people traveling on passports suspected of being falsified and probably isn't anything new.

In some ways, it's just implementing the older restriction, except that traveling on a non-Israeli passport gave them cover and letting in Israelis not traveling on an Israeli passport was easier.

11. Because Israel hasn't been attacking Dubai for decades.
Hasn't been sending suicide bombers and launching attacks.

And they haven't proven it was the Mossad.

12. You do realise the Palestinian population wasn't attacking Israel?
I didn't realise there was some time limit before it became acceptable to ban people from entering a country.

Also, who's 'they'? And how exactly are 'they' supposed to prove it was Mossad? Israel didn't even admit the two arrested in NZ a few years back were Mossad agents, even though to save its relationship with NZ, it issued an apology for the passport theft. I know the Australian govt isn't satisfied at all with the response it got from Israel on the use of forged Australian passports when it asked Israel for assistance in getting to the bottom of it. And I've noticed that Israel hasn't confirmed nor denied it was Mossad, which is standard from Israel when Mossad is involved in something...

19. Their leaders and power structure were.
Countries rarely confirm or deny anything about their intelligence arms.

Dubai has accused Israel and the Mossad. The burden of proof is on them.

21. And Israel was attacking them...
Edited on Thu Mar-04-10 04:49 AM by Violet_Crumble
There's absolutely nothing to stop Israel from clearing itself by cooperating with the Australian investigation. So far their response has been totally unsatisfactory, and given the past actions of Mossad where they have stolen passports, it's a pretty safe bet they were involved in this.

I didn't catch yr explanation of the time limit thingy you seem to be going by as to why it's acceptable for Israel to ban entry to an entire group of people, but not for Dubai to do it...

24. Israel was defending itself.
Fixed it for you.

Countries don't like giving foreign governments access to their intelligence agencies. They probably settled any actual issues behind closed doors.

Israel is still being attacked from Lebanon, the WB and Gaza. Please list all the times Israel has launched attacks against Dubai.

25. No, Israel was attacking them. Israel's the one that's occupying them...
No-one's asking for access to Mossad. Other govts are rightly demanding answers about why their passports were forged. Matters have NOT been settled at all between Israel and those countries and here at least, it's caused some fallout for the relationship between the two countries.

There's a very good possibility that Israel sent a death squad to Dubai. That's a violation of another countries sovereignty and along with passport theft, it's something that no DUer should be defending or believing it's acceptable to do...
