Former IDF chiefs trade barbs over failures in Second Lebanon War
Edited on Sun Nov-01-09 09:31 AM by bemildred
Two former Israel Defense Forces chiefs of staff have entered into a war of words over failures by the army in its 2006 campaign against the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, and each other's responsibility for them.

Deputy Prime Minister Moshe Ya'alon, who was the IDF chief of staff from 2002-2005, said on Saturday that most of the damage caused during the Second Lebanon War was due "the sin of arrogance" committed by his successor, Dan Halutz.

"What happened with Dan Halutz was a tragedy," Ya'alon said, stressing the importance of humility for senior officers. "If we move away from this humility for one moment we're likely to find ourselves in a very bad place."

Halutz on Sunday issued a scathing response to Ya'alon's "obsession" with the matter.
