Israelis To Probe Racist Graffiti
A series of disturbing slogans were daubed on the walls of a house occupied during Operation Cast Lead by soldiers in the town of Zeitoun.

One reads "Arabs need 2 die", another says "make war not peace".

Elsewhere a soldier appears to crow about killing a Palestinian, writing in bad English: "1 is down, 999,999 to go."

On another wall in Hebrew, is written: "The Only Good Arab is a Dead Arab."

Others are too offensive to be reprinted here.

1. This is hilarious. The fact that this would be undertaken and announced publicly
shows that the gov't of Israel simply doesn't have a clue.

2. IDF soldiers spray racist graffiti on Gaza homes
Gaza residents returning to their homes in Zeitun neighborhood find their houses covered with slogans such as 'Death to Arabs,' and 'One down, 999,999 to go.' IDF: Those responsible will be reprimanded

<snip>

"A painful reminder for Operation Cast Lead remained evident in Gaza in the form of blatant, racist graffiti sprayed on houses' walls by IDF soldiers.

Residents of the Zeitun neighborhood who returned to their homes once the fighting in the region was over discovered that their walls had been sprayed with slogans such as "Die you all," Make war not peace," "Death to Arabs," "Arabs must die," and "One down, 999,999 to go."

Some of the graffiti was sprayed on the ruins of the homes of the al-Samuni family, who lost dozens of its members during the war.

An IDF spokesman said in response to the report: "This is not how IDF soldiers are educated. This goes against the IDF's ethical code. The matter is being investigated and those responsible for it will be severely reprimanded."

4. pamphlets issued to soldiers
Someone posted the following comments in the Haaretz page covering the story:

The chief military rabbi general Brigadier General Avi Ronzki gave soldiers a pamphlet urging them not to show mercy.
"When you show mercy to a cruel enemy you are being cruel to pure and honest soldiers. These are not games at the amusement park where sportmanship teaches ones to make concessions. This is a war on murderers."

Far right groups are/have been issuing pamphlets on military bases that virtually call on soldiers to act outside international law.
One urged "soldiers to spare your lives and the lives of your friends and not show concern for a population that surrounds us and harms us..."
"Kill the ones who comes to kill you. As for the population, it is not innocent."

6. Sounds like a job for the ...
...United Nations Humanitarian Affairs Chief.

If he can get over his impotent rage.

Israel 'no mercy' officer rebuked

The Israeli military says it has "severely reprimanded"
an officer who distributed a booklet to troops that
advised they show no mercy to enemies.

The unnamed officer distributed the booklet to troops
during the Israeli offensive in Gaza. It said the soldiers
were fighting "murderers".

The military said its chief rabbi, Gen Avichai Rontzki,
did not know of the booklet before it was given out.

The army described the case as an isolated incident.

9. Haaretz had an article about it on 26/01

with more quotations in it:

" ... Haaretz has received some of the publications through Breaking the Silence, a group of former soldiers who collect evidence of unacceptable behavior in the army vis-a-vis Palestinians. Other material was provided by officers and men who received it during Operation Cast Lead. Following are quotations from this material: ..."
