Jewish women occupy Israeli consulate in Toronto
The RCMP has been called to the Israeli consulate on Bloor St. W. where a group of Canadian Jewish women are staging a sit-in to protest against the Israeli assault on Gaza.

Supporters of the group outside the consulate said early this afternoon that the group would be arrested. Seven officers and a paddy wagon were outside.

---

"Israel purports to represent all Jews worldwide and these atrocities are not being committed in our name," said spokesperson and filmmaker Cathy Gulkin, standing outside the consulate.

---

"There are Jews that do not follow the Israeli line and are sickened by what is happening in Gaza."

3. Hooray for the Canadian Activists
They have been leaps and bounds ahead of the US on this issue for about 10 years. I've been protesting the Iraq war for about 3 years now (I mean actively - on the streets protesting), and I'm finding that my colleagues have now turned to the Israeli Palestinian conflict. My feeling is that it's a little too little and a little too late to be carrying signs when we have been giving billions to the Israelis to sequester, isolate, build fences, and deny basic necessities of life (look at water) to the Palestinians for years upon years upon years. I think it's naive to notice just now.

Canadian Jews and gentiles alike have been paying attention for some time now and have realized that it is not anti-Semitic to protest the brutal actions of a GOVERNMENT against innocent people.

I watched a great documentary last night on Free Speech TV called "Life in Occupied Palestine" by Anna Blatzer. Anna is a Jewish-American who went and lived in the occupied territories to find out first hand what was happening there. It was really heartbreaking. She also has a website, and she talks in depth about the current situation in Gaza -- you check it out here:

Her blog is in the Writings section.

5. Hurrah for them!
This once again shows the racism in the Islamic world in those who condemn all Jewish people for what Israel does.
