Iranian boy to undergo surgery in Israel
Iranian boy to undergo surgery in Israel

Interior Ministry, Shin Bet grant unusual plea by Tehran family to have son suffering form brain cancer treated in Jewish state. 'When a child's life is at stake religion and origin play no part,' says Minister Sheetrit

A 12-year-old Iranian boy suffering from brain cancer is scheduled to arrive in Israel on Friday for emergency surgery.

<snip>

The complex feat required a personal ex-gratia authorization from Interior Minister Meir Sheetrit, since the boy is Iranian and citizens of an enemy state are banned from entering Israel.

Sheetrit granted the request and forwarded it for the immediate review of the Shin Bet, ordering expedited proceeding be taken due to the boy's grave medical condition. The Shin Bet granted the request, saying the boy and his parents could stay in Israel – for two weeks at this point.

1. In this day and age we all seem to be
surrounded by enemy states. That is what is wrong. How generous of the Israelis--letting them stay for two whole weeks. If the boy is in the middle of a cat scan and their time is up will they have to leave in the middle of the scan? What have we become?

3. Yes, what have we become?
What does it say when, despite Iran being an enemy state, Israel is preforming emergency, possibly life-saving, surgery on one of its citizens? What does it say when a gesture of goodwill by Israel is picked apart by posters such as yourself? What does it say when hypotheticals are treated as fact as opposed to the real facts, such as your remarks about the mythical cat scan, despite the remark in the article says "up to this point," indicating a possible longer stay may occur or not, but we don't know either way?

Yes, what have we become when goodwill is met with derision and mockery?

6. Wow! I can see to some extent why my posting
was seen as derisive and mocking. That was not my intent. My posting was intended to be just a view of our state of affairs after Bush years. Maybe a sarcasm smilie or something should have been included. When a country offering help to another country makes news I know something is wrong with us. Sorry if anyone was offended--certainly not intended. For your information I am of a mixed family and when I say mixed I mean mixed to the max.

4. well, the shabak did say "2 weeks,
at this point." Meaning it could easily be extended (or the reverse) as the situation warrants.

What have we become?

"We" who?

Traditionally, it is not common for someone to donate time or resources to help the members of your enemy's "tribe." Whether they are children or not. I fail to see how anyone could view this event in a negative light.

5. The Hate Israel crowd will view anything that Israel does
even a good thing like this, in a negative light.

7. I just pray...
That this is something small that turns into something big and good. "From Tiny Acorns" and all that.

8. That is as it should be. I think it is great also
that is being done. When it comes to children and health we should all be friends. I am sorry some people misinterpreted my original message.
