Report: U.S., Canada warn Hezbollah set to strike Jewish targets

Intelligence agencies in Canada and the United States are warning of mounting signs that the Lebanon-based guerilla group Hezbollah is planning to attack Jewish targets in retaliation for the assassination of top Hezbollah man Imad Mughniyah some six months ago, ABC News reported Thursday.

Hezbollah has blamed Israel for the February 12 assassination in Damascus, but Israel has denied any involvement.

The intelligence sources told the American news network that Hezbollah was operating sleeper cells in Canada, and that senior Hezbollah operatives have left Lebanon for Canada as well as Europe and Africa.

According to the sources, ABC reported, there is currently no specific warning of an imminent attack, but they added that Hezbollah operatives have recently carried out surveillance of the Israeli embassy in the Canadian capital, as well as several synagogues in Toronto.

If this was about US politics, why would the focus be on locations outside the US?

That aside, do you believe that Nasrallah/Hezbollah is planning any sort of attack on Israeli or Jewish interests anywhere in the world in response to Mughniyah's death?

Has he not made statements directly announcing such intentions?

4. What Nasrallah May Be Planning, Sir

Bears no relation whatever to this political statement fronted to ABC News as part of the Republican party's Presidential campaigning. Never once over the last six and a half years have such statements borne any relation to any actual operation by jihadis; indeed, many actual arrests have borne little if any relation to an actual plot unless made after the fact of its commission.

Nasrallah may well be intending some strike at an Israeli or Jewish target outside the Middle East, but this statement bears no relation to any such actual plan. Again, if there were real intelligence on such a thing, the last thing any security service would do would be announce publicly they had the information. They would stay silent, and watch what happened right up until the moment they were sure the thing was about to be carried out.
