RAMALLAH, West Bank (AFP) - Top Israeli and Palestinian peace negotiators will begin talks on the core issues of the Middle East conflict on Monday, Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas said late Sunday.
In a speech in the West Bank town of Ramallah before the central committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation's parliament, Abbas said former Palestinian premier Ahmed Qorei and Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni "will begin final status negotiations tomorrow (Monday)."
A senior aide to Livni confirmed the talks will be held in Jerusalem on Monday "as part of the ongoing meetings between the two sides."
He said that the two top negotiators will discuss the thorniest issues of the Middle East conflict, including Jerusalem, Palestinian refugees and the borders of the future Palestinian state.
