Hamas: Int'l force in Gaza will be met with rockets
The armed wing of Hamas rejected Palestinian Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's call for the deployment of international troops in the Gaza Strip, vowing on Saturday to attack them with rockets as they would any other "occupation forces".

Abbas dismissed a Hamas-led unity government and formed his own administration in the occupied West Bank after Hamas's violent takeover of the Gaza Strip two weeks ago.

Abbas, who leads the secular Fatah faction, told French President Nicolas Sarkozy during a visit to Paris on Friday that he wanted an international peacekeeping force to move into Gaza in order to ensure free elections can be held there.

"We will not allow any foreign forces to step a foot into the Gaza Strip and we will deal with them as occupation forces," Hamas's Izz El-Deen Al-Qassam Brigades said in a statement. "We will only receive these forces with shells and rockets."

2. They didn't say they would attack those who "come to help". That sort of misunderstanding is the
problem here. Of course Hamas doesn't want international forces to come in and help Fatah. I didn't read it as them denying help. I read it as them fending off attempts by Abbas to remove them from power.

From the OP's article: "Abbas dismissed a Hamas-led unity government and formed his own administration in the occupied West Bank after Hamas's violent takeover of the Gaza Strip two weeks ago."

and from a more recent article:

"Dr. Abu Zuhri said contacts are made with Egyptian official in bid to pressure Israel to reopen the border-crossing to allow thousands of Palestinian passengers to cross to Gaza Strip.

Dr. Abu Zuhri also slammed statements made by the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Paris on Friday in which he called for international forces in the Gaza Strip.

Abbas told the conference of International Socialism in Paris that International forces are needed at least to protect planned early elections.

On his part, Dr. Abu Zuhri described this call as requesting the "support of the foreigner against his country men." and added that any foreign forces represents another military occupation of the Gaza Strip.

He also slammed Abbas' rejection to calls by several Arab leaders for dialogue with Hamas to solve conflict issues."

Why would Hamas be trying to "pressure Israel to reopen the border-crossing to allow thousands of Palestinian passengers to cross to Gaza strip." if they were uninterested in alleviating suffering? Why wouldn't they be attacking the trucks with aid that are coming in?

I guess it's easier to call people "idiots" than to truly attempt understanding.

3. The article states the force would be there to ensure free elections

"...wanted an international peacekeeping force to move into Gaza in order to ensure free elections can be held there."

As to your comment:"Why wouldn't they be attacking the trucks with aid that are coming in?"

But they have attacked the crossings including this past week.
