Chavez opposes Ahmadinejad on Israel
Edited on Sat Mar-17-07 10:17 AM by IanDB1
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who maintains warm ties with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahamadinejad, said Friday in a television interview that he opposed Ahmadinejad's call to "wipe Israel off the map."

"I don't agree with {Imadinnerjacket's} statements…I don't support causing harm to any nation," Chavez declared. Chavez has repeatedly raised the ire of Jewish groups by making remarks deemed anti-Semitic.

In addition, Chavez has come out in support of Iran's nuclear program as well as denouncing the summer's war in Lebanon, accusing Israel of a 'new Holocaust.' At the Non-Aligned Movement summit, which was held in Cuba leading up to Ahamdinejad's visit to Caracas in September, Venezuela and Iran channeled the tide of global anti-US sentiment into support for Iran's right to nuclear energy.

Meanwhile, Ahmadinejad reiterated on Friday that new sanctions will not force Iran to give up its right to enrich uranium and blasted the UN Security Council as an instrument used by "bullying" Western nations against Teheran.

1. OK, I'm getting goddamned sick and tired...
Of hearing the erroneous "wipe Israel off the map" quote.

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article12763.htm

A much more accurate translation would be "Israel will vanish from the pages of time"

And no, I'm not a Farsi speaker, though I wish I were, if for no other reason than to dispel Israeli propaganda.

5. No, he is as much anti-Jewish as Olmert, Peres, Sharon are anti-Arab. Idiocy from more than one

place. Neither justifies the other. It is, to say the least, not helpful from either side.

8. Really? Then you will, of course, have no problem
posting quotes from Olmert and Peres that illustrate that they've said things comparable to Ahmadinejad's utterances.

10. It's not about quotes with the above, its about actions...
Bush is no less a racist. Was it his words that convicted him when Katrina descended upon the people of New Orleans? No, it was his actions, and lack of action.

But the continuing policy of Apartheid and deliberate genocide against the people of Palestine by the current israeli regime that say everything.

11. Deliberate genocide against the people of Palestine?
I do not think that is an accurate description of the situation.

12. Deliberate genocide??
If that is the Israeli policy, they're not very good at it. Hyperbole helps nothing and makes it very easy to ignore you. As does your moral relativism.

19. Typical Propaganda and lies.
If Israel is perpetrating genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian Arabs then how come there are more Arabs living between the river Jordan and the Mediterranean than have ever lived there before in the entire history of the land?

How come under "Apartheid." Israeli Arab citizens vote and participate in the government along with Jewish citizens, can own and buy land, and are legally protected against discrimination in government services and the work place?

How come Israeli Arabs enjoy a far higher standard of living and better health care and educational opportunities than their neighbors in Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon. Arabs can serve in the Israeli army and many do, especially Bedouin and Druze.

What all you anti Zionist propagandists cleverly forget are the facts.

4. Chavez should spend some time here at DU - I/P.
Then he'd find that Ahmadinejad is just using typical ME poetic language where his words come out a lot like "genocide" and "ethnic cleansing" to untrained ears - even when those words are re-affirmed by his own state press.

Fortunately, you are here to set the record straight.

6. Al Jazeera promotes Israeli propaganda?
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has openly called for Israel to be wiped off the map.

"The establishment of the Zionist regime was a move by the world oppressor against the Islamic world," the president told a conference in Tehran on Wednesday, entitled The World without Zionism.

"The skirmishes in the occupied land are part of a war of destiny. The outcome of hundreds of years of war will be defined in Palestinian land," he said.

"As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map," said Ahmadinejad, referring to Iran's revolutionary leader Ayat Allah Khomeini.

And this is from the website of the Presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Ahmadinejad: Supporters of Israel will face wrath of Islamic ummah

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned countries or leaders who have taken measures to acknowledge the Zionist regime under pressure or due to lack of sound understanding that they will be confronted with the wrath of the Islamic ummah and will forever be disgraced. Speaking at a conference dubbed "World without Zionism" here Wednesday which was attended by thousands of students, he said any country which acknowledges the Zionist regime will actually be acknowledging the surrender and defeat of the Islamic world. He further expressed his firm belief that the new wave of confrontations generated in Palestine and the growing turmoil in the Islamic world would in no time wipe Israel away. Ahmadinejad referred to the Zionist regime's recent withdrawal from the Gaza Strip as a "trick," saying Gaza is part of Palestinian territory and the withdrawal was meant to make Islamic states acknowledge the Zionist regime of Israel. Pointing to the evil attempts of the US and Israel to saw discord among warring forces in Palestine and other parts of the Islamic world, the president said such attempts were aimed at forcing some Islamic countries to acknowledge the existence of Israel.

al-Jazeera- secretly controlled by the nefarious Israelis. Now I've heard everything. Hard to take anything you say after such a ridiculous assertion, as anything but a joke.

14. aljazeera.net depends on AP, AFP and Reuters for virtually all of its news.
They clearly have an anti-Iranian bias. If you haven't realised that by now it's hard to take a anything you take seriously.

When it comes to I/P, people who are so ferociously partisan on one side or the other, are imposssible to take seriously. Unsurprisingly you provide no evidence to back up your claim.

16. Check all aljazerra.net news articles any day of the year and see how many are not from agencies.
I've tried it several times. They're all AP, AFP or Reuters.

I think it would be better if you laid off the personal attacks, Cali. It just encourages people to give the same back to you, which makes you feel even worse about things because you seem to let them bother you.

I like mixing it up- particularly with people who are indeed oblivious. And let me mention that little pot kettle saying as far as personal attacks go. Thanks for your oh so sincere sounding concern, but I'm fine- and I give as good as I get.
