Still on colision course
You can only negotiate with people who are willing to listen and to compromise. That of course applies to all sides, but in the Middle East such a situation does not exist. Hizbollah are trying to bring down the Lebanese government in an unconstitutional way, not that Hizbollah has a single ounce of democracy within its ranks.

The latest Iraq initiative has an element within the document where the U.S. needs to talk with Iran and Syria, the very same two countries that are fully behind the Hizbollah demonstrations. Should Hizbollah succeed then the Middle East talks will not only change direction but they will come to a grinding halt. When there is no talk then the only sound to be heard will be bombs and then Hamas, seeing the surge of Shiite strength, will dig in their heels and no doubt join in.

In the meantime thousands of Lebanese and UN troops are sitting around doing very little on the southern border soaking up the sunshine while monitoring the current events. Israel on the other hand knows the score and awaits the next battle. You don't need to be a political scientist to see what is likely to happen, which is why Bush and Blair will never talk with Iran or Syria.

There is a belief that in time (and that is still an unknown) the Shiite crescent will dominate the region and if that happens then the Arab world will be totally divided. If we assume that Iran has intentions of owning a nuclear weapon then the next move for them is almost as predictable as what is happening at this very moment in time.
