Israelis pull out of Lebanon

THE Israeli defence minister has given the green light for the army to fully withdraw from Lebanon today.

Amir Peretz gave his approval for the estimated remaining several hundred Israeli troops in Lebanon to leave today, the radio said.

Earlier, Israeli public television said the army would evacuate the remaining sectors it occupied in southern Lebanon by Sunday afternoon, and that the army was awaiting the government's go-ahead to begin withdrawal in the coming hours.

A Lebanese government spokesman said the French commander of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), General Alain Pellegrini, had told Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora that Israel would pull out the last of its troops.
