10 IDF soldiers incarcerated for rape
Edited on Fri Sep-15-06 08:02 AM by Stockholm
10 IDF soldiers from the Negev air force base of Navatim were incarcerated on Thursday afternoon for their part in the rape of a 14-year-old girl.

The soldiers were sentenced to 21-42 months military incarceration for "shameful behavior."

Nine of those who were sentenced admitted to having sexual intercourse with the girl. One soldier refused to admit his guilt; however, his colleagues incriminated him.

A senior IDF officer said that the reason the perpetrators were not indicted in a civil court was that the girl and her family had refused to cooperate, saying they would not testify in a civil trial.

Next week, another 22 soldiers will face a disciplinary hearing on the same charge, while a sergeant major and a lieutenant will be tried for failing to report that the soldiers were sleeping with the girl, even though they knew about it.

The base commander decided to hold the disciplinary hearings after a Military Police investigation found insufficient evidence for criminal indictments. Although the girl was below the age of consent - meaning that all the soldiers were guilty of statutory rape - she told investigators that she had lied to the soldiers, telling them that she was 17, and investigators found no evidence that the soldiers knew that she was in fact underage. She also said that the sex was consensual, and investigators found no evidence to contradict this. Moreover, the girl's mother and stepfather said that they would not allow her to testify in court to spare her further trauma.

The girl was a school dropout, and had therefore been roaming the base for months with little to do when these incidents occurred.

A 14 year old girl is a child. Shameful behavior indeed.

Plus she lied to these poor poor but "totally normal" HOT blooded Soldiers. Therefore, she was asking for IT and probably enjoyed it TOO. How were these poor BOYS to know that she wasn't 17 y.o. like she clearly claimed. :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

:puke: :nuke:

Now, I feel great empathy for the women enlisted in the IDF. :(
"Watching your a**" brings a whole new meaning to their service, aye?

4. What's the point of this post?
To show that Israelis can be disgusting animals like any other lawbreaking jerk?

I love it when posts pop up that are intended to put the IDF in a bad light and to show what depraved, callous brutes they are---devoid of any feeling or conscience. Would you have posted a story about 10 Arabs who raped a 14 year-old-girl? I doubt it.

Rape is a crime no matter who does it or what ethnicity the perpetrator happens to be. I'm sure if you dig hard enough you can find more instances of cruelty and criminal behavior in the ME and even in Sweden.

What troubles me the most is that the leadership knew about it and did not take action. IMO that is putting the enlisted women soldiers at higher risk because they allowed such immoral behavior, who's to say if it would derogate to grabbing the women soldiers AGAINST their will?

No, don't get me wrong that I would consider this unique. Far from that, but the leadership that "turned a blind eye" to such immorality should be stripped of their rank and kicked out of the Military.

"Next week, another 22 soldiers will face a disciplinary hearing on the same charge, while a sergeant major and a lieutenant will be tried for failing to report that the soldiers were sleeping with the girl, even though they knew about it."

IMO, the situation would not have derogated to 10 male soldiers having sex with her in the barracks and keeping her there IF THE LEADERSHIP HAD ADDRESSED THIS SITUATION IMMEDIATELY UPON DISCOVERY.

Nope, as a former lieutenant, I'm extremely angry with this officer for not enforcing a high moral standing for his soldiers. IMO, both the lieutenant and sergeant major should be given the MOST HARSH sentences. The military I served in during the 1980s drove home the following - with increased pay, authority and responsibility also comes absolute accountability. :grr: :(

6. Air Force sex scandal: 9 more soldiers incarcerated
Soldiers, who allegedly had sexual relations with 14-year-old girl in their base, convicted of behavior unbecoming, shameful conduct. Each will serve sentence of 14 to 30 days in military prison. Eleven others due to be sentenced in near future

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3305525,00.html

<snip>

"Nine soldiers who were allegedly involved in the sexual relations scandal with a 14-year-old girl in the Nevatim Air Force base in the south of Israel were sentenced Monday to a period of 14 to 30 days in a military prison for behavior unbecoming, and for shameful behavior. These sentences were given despite sharp criticism from the public and from women's organizations claiming that the soldiers were not given harsh enough sentences.

On Thursday, ten other soldiers involved in the scandal were sentenced to 21 to 42 days in prison, and 11 others will be sentenced soon. Military advocate General Maj. General Avihai Mendelbit adopted the decision of the Air Force Prosecution not to charge them with criminal charges, but to try the 30 soldiers involved with disciplinary charges only.

During the scandal, dozens of soldiers were suspected of having sexual relations with a 14 year old girl living on base.

The base's new commander, who replaced the commander who resigned because of the scandal, was the one to sentence the soldiers. So far, the most a single soldier was sentenced to was 42 days."
