Israeli troops kill Palestinian boy in Bethlehem
BETHLEHEM, West Bank, Sept 12 (Reuters) - Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian teenager in Bethlehem on Tuesday as they confronted protesters during a raid to arrest a wanted militant in the West Bank city, medics and witnesses said.

The violence erupted when troops surrounded a house where they later arrested a militant of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a group linked to the mainstream Fatah faction, witnesses and Israeli military sources said.

The soldiers opened fire after protesters at the site near Manger Square, the site of Jesus's birth in Bethlehem, threw stones, firebombs and grenades, injuring two of the troops, a military spokesman said.

Medics said a 14-year-old boy died after being shot in the chest and that five other people were wounded.

The incident came hours after an Israeli soldier was killed in the Gaza Strip by gunmen who ambushed the troops during a raid against militants.

More than 210 Palestinians, about half of them civilians, have been killed in Israeli operations against gunmen in Gaza and the West Bank since Israel intensified its raids after the capture of a soldier near the Gaza border on June 25.

3. So if Jews aren't responsible for Darfur, then they aren't responsible
for this either. Is that your logic?

12. What does "Jane. You stupid bitch." bring to the table?
Does it help find a solution to middle east situation, or does it contribute to the antagonism?

4. Just another number. If he were Jewish, we'd know his hobbies, how
many friends he had, what his hopes and dreams were and the names of all those who mourn him.

11. and this irritates you?
Considering this is an initial report, more may follow. Also, the coverage in other media sources may or may not provide more information. Your statement is nothing more than a tired, worn-out strawman.

13. Yes, it does.
It's a system of humanizing one side any dehumanizing another. It's part of the Israeli PR machine to make them seem more sympathetic.

But I'm sure this is something you've never heard of.

14. Pretty strange headline for a story where . .
Edited on Wed Sep-13-06 12:04 PM by msmcghee
"The soldiers opened fire after protesters at the site near Manger Square, the site of Jesus's birth in Bethlehem, threw stones, firebombs and grenades, injuring two of the troops, a military spokesman said.

Hmmm, just reading the headline one imagines a scene where IDF are firing into the lifeless body of an innocent Palestinian teenager, inadvertently caught on his front porch during an Israeli sweep.

It's just another example of the complete anti-Israeli bias in the media.

15. No, it doesn't.
But the incident you've described did actually happen, a couple of years ago, the 'confirmed kill'
execution of a Palestinian schoolgirl, Iman al-Hams;

'A schoolgirl riddled with bullets. And no one is to blame

Questions remain after Israeli unit commander is cleared of Palestinian pupil's death

Chris McGreal in Rafah
Thursday October 21, 2004
The Guardian

The undisputed facts are these: it was broad daylight, 13-year-old Iman al-Hams was wearing her school uniform, and when she walked into the Israeli army's "forbidden zone" at the bottom of her street she was carrying her satchel. A few minutes later the short, slight child was pumped with bullets. Doctors counted at least 17 wounds and said much of her head was destroyed.

Beyond that there is little agreement between the army top brass and Palestinian witnesses as to how Iman came to die last week, or even among members of the military unit responsible for killing the child in Gaza's Rafah refugee camp.

Palestinian witnesses described the shooting as cold-blooded. They say soldiers could not have failed to see they were firing at a child, and she was killed as she already lay wounded and helpless.

"Some soldiers were lying on the ground and shooting very heavily toward her," said Basim Breaka, who saw the killing from her living room. "Then one of the soldiers walked to her and emptied his clip into her. For sure she died on the second or third bullet. I could see her lying on the ground, not moving. I can't imagine why that soldier wanted to shoot her after she was dead."

This week an army investigation cleared the unit's commander after some of his own soldiers accused him of giving the order to shoot knowing the target was a young girl, and of then emptying the clip of his automatic rifle into her.

16. Do I see some pattern here?
Every time some bizarre accusation of war crimes or vicious racism on the part of Israel is refuted and shown to be overblown or even a hoax - the subject quickly gets shifted to some entirely unrelated event, this time two years ago - that had absolutely nothing to do with the topic under discussion or the title of the thread.

When somone objects to these tactics we are then accused of trying to "change the subject". Pathetic.
