Abbas gets green light to form unity government
The Fatah Central Committee on Friday gave Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas a mandate to hold negotiations on behalf of the movement in a bid to form a national unity government.

Fatah member Hani al-Hassan said that Abbas was asked to launch negotiations with Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and all the factions in order to form the unity government.

Hassan added that the disagreements between Fatah and Hamas were resolved and that the unity government was a rescue government for all the Palestinians.

Some good news for a change.

1. Depends on how you define "good news"...
Watch for the Ohlmert government to declare that this makes Abbas and Fatah every bit as much "Islamofascist terrorists" as Hamas, and "proves" yet again that "we have no partner for peace."

:-(

2. So , has Hamas decided to recognize Israel's right to exist yet?
If they haven't, there will be no partner for peace.

3. That worn-out 'partner for peace' line...
Considering that same line got used to death during the Arafat era, and the PA was accused of not recognising Israel's right to exist even when it had done, it'd seem to me that even if Hamas took out a full page ad in the New York Times every day for five years saying 'We Recognise Israel's Right To Exist', there'd be many people still accusing them of not recognising Israel's 'right to exist'....

4. This has nothing to do with the Arafat 's time
If Hamas doesn't recognize Israel's right to exist, I see no way for there to be negotiations, therefore, no partner for peace.

5. It's the exact same line used then...
Think about it. If people accused the PA back then of not recognising Israel's right to exist when it had, what makes you think things would be any different this time?

6. Tell me the last time you saw the Hamas leaders say Israel
has the right to exist or the Hamas Charter was changed to reflect that

7. Does the Palestinian PM count?

I'm making a bet that there'll be some excuse made as to it not being good enough, which more than amply proves the point I was making in my earlier post :)
