Israel says situation in Lebanon 'explosive'; shelling again tests truce
BEIRUT (AP) - Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni called the situation in Lebanon "explosive" and pressed the international community to work quickly to deploy peacekeeping troops as the shaky ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was further tested Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora urged the U.S. to help end Israel's sea and air blockade, saying his country was making "every effort" to secure its borders.

"The United States can support us in putting real pressure on Israel to lift the siege," the western-backed Saniora told reporters. His government has called the blockade a violation of the UN-brokered ceasefire, and has asked the international community to intervene.

The mounting diplomatic pressure came as several incidents erupted along the border, with three Lebanese and one Israeli soldier killed by exploding ordnance. In other violence, two Lebanese men were seized in an Israeli army raid and Israeli forces resuming sporadic shelling in a disputed area.

7. Lebanon is not allowed to fight back

So if they do, then they are the ones who have started it. Nobody is allowed to fight back against us or against Israel and if they do it is terrorism. Also the resolution they have now says Israel can defend itself, so they get to bomb whatever they want to and say they are just defending Israel with some pre-emptive military operations. The problem is that the whole thing about who gets to defend themselves is just seen with a different point of view in Lebanon and the other countries that are neighbors of Israel, they think they have the right to defend themselves whether we say they do or not, which is an anti-American sentiment, the points of view are so different it doesn't seem like there is any way to negotiate it.

5. At least they weren't "kidnapped".
Have to use different words for different people.

Palestinians "attack". Israel only "retaliates"
Israel "captures". Palestinians "kidnap".

I think journalists go to school to learn how to use correct terms for US allies (and yes, it applies not just to Israel, but usually to all official US allies).
