On tape: Israeli officer tells Lebanese general that he briefed Bush.

Before the ceasefire, a Lebanese general, Adnan Daoud, opened the gates of his base at Marjayoun to Israeli soldiers, gave them a tour and served them tea. At one point in the video, Daoud asked, "Don't we need to tell our "bosses?" and an Israeli officer responded, "We briefed Bush. You brief whoever you want." Afterward, Israel attacked the base, as well as Daoud's retreating convoy.

3. Just like out of the 13th century. If true, why do we need to maintain

support for Israel. Sip tea, then come back and attack? Hope it's not true.

4. Well, for whatever it's worth, the Lebanese general is facing charges of..

...treason, in connection with the episode. And, according to the report, seven people died when Israel attacked the retreating Lebanese convoy, afterward.

Whether the Israeli officer actually said that he had briefed Bush, I can't say. I don't know why it would be reported that way, if those words weren't on the tape. I suppose the Israelis could have edited the audio before they aired it but I can't imagine why adding a statement like that would be considered a good thing to do.

It's just very, very strange.
