Lebanese cabinet will not force Hezbollah to disarm
Gee, Lebanon and Hezbollah already ignoring the UN ceasefire resolution? What a surprise. Now we get to hear from the regular DU apologists who will somehow blame Israel for this. When the war in Lebanon resumes, don't act all surprised.

Lebanese cabinet will not force Hezbollah to disarm
The Lebanese cabinet on Wednesday accepted the Lebanese army's plan to deploy in southern Lebanon, and ordered 15,000 troops to depart for the area south of the Litani River after midnight Thursday.

Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora was set to announce the imminent deployment late Wednesday.

According to the cabinet decision, Hezbollah will not disarm in southern Lebanon, but its members will refrain from carrying weapons in public. The agreement was reached following deliberations with Hezbollah representatives that lasted days.

The Lebanese government's decision contradicts United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, reached last week, which determines that the area south of the Litani River will be free of arms, aside from those held by Lebanese soldiers and UNIFIL troops. The cabinet made the decision after Hezbollah rejected all demands to disarm south of the Litani.

that Hizbollah can defend Israel better than the Lebanese Army. Why would they want them to disarm. Their country is already screwed. And really now, what do they have to lose... maybe another thousand or so civilians and another billions of dollars of damage.

3. Ooh, that was fast
I'm keeping a count on how many ways Isael can be blamed for this or why it's really excusable behavior on the part of Hezbollah (which is really just a nice trustworthy social service organization unfairly portrayed as a bunch of terrorist thugs). Yours was already more creative than I expected. Thanks!

5. It is not the cabinet that has to do it It is their army

Didn't Condi say the other day that we would give them money to kill anybody who is in favor of fighting back against Israel? And I think they are going to send Germans to help kill them too and protect the Israelis who are doing the occupation because so many of them were getting killed.

6. remind me again...
why were the hizballa attacking israel?...i seem to recall an intl border there...so they're defending themselves against being attacked when they do the attacking?

just a suggestion: the people on the lebanese soil, should stick to their side of the border, as do the syrians, jordans and egyptains...seems to work pretty well with those countries.

as long as hizballa is not disarmed, as long as they control s. lebanon, get fed by syrian and iran...as long as lebanon doesnt control their own border....it will start up again.

Hizballas has made it clear: they want israel gone....and they dont hide behind an western terminology either (for those who listen)

11. I don't think Hezbollah will disarm in the sense Israel hopes...
They've gained too much in this war. The best they can hope for is to bring Hezbollah soldiers into the Lebanese Army and in that way, reign them in a little.

place is for them to be in the army. Hezbollah is a fifth column type organization for Lebanon, starting a war without the official government blessing, etc.

12. Hezbollah is not the PLO or AQ
they seem to have a little more subtle an approach whether it be for good or ill.

19. Of course.
But what could poor little Signora do, after all?

Perhaps not lie? Snivel? Grovel?

Mark my words, by September there'll be a Siniora speech saying that Hezbollah is the resistance, and all Lebanese are proud of them.

20. All of this was so simple to predict...
...a drooling idiot could have surmised the outcome.

Would not be surprised to see Hezbollah become the dominant political force in Lebanon.

The undesired outcome is often the result of short-sighted and mis-guided policies.
