Costa Rica to move Israel embassy out of Jerusalem
<snip>

"Costa Rica will move its embassy in Israel from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, its new president said on Wednesday, in a move that pleases Arab nations and is a blow to the Israeli government.

The decision will leave El Salvador as the only country in the world with an embassy in Jerusalem.

Costa Rican President Oscar Arias, a former Nobel Peace Prize winner, said he made the decision to win more friends in the Middle East and comply with United Nations' resolutions.

"It's time to rectify an historic error that hurts us internationally and deprives us of almost any form of friendship with the Arab world, and more broadly with Islamic civilization, to which a sixth of humanity belongs," Arias said at an event marking his first 100 days in office."

1. Its irellevant, the Capital of Israel IS , ALWAYS WILL be,ALWAYS HAS BEEN,

And will eternally BE Jerusalem. And it makes not an iota of difference what anyone else decides as Israelis are the ones who decide.

Houses of Government, the Knesset,The supreme Court of Israel as well as the Kotel ,Kikar Tzion,
Ir Haatikah, the City of David, the new Jerusalem railway line,The Citidal David Hotel, and property Newly purchesed by American Jews near Jaffa Gate are ALL located in the Capital city of the Jewish State.

Explain that, please.

6. cognitive dissonance

occurs when a country chooses it's capital but some people cannot deal with that fact, so they invent/rationalize/justify reasons why it's wrong, even though it's not their effing decision.

9. So, how many embassies are in Jerusalem?
Because, what you've described isn't cognitive dissonance. But, hey, you already knew that. :)

5. Ah...
The "repeat loudly and often" tactic.

With obligatory random capitalization.

Reminds me of a Doctor that used to hang around here.

It's occupied land Israel has deemed ripe for Annexation.

Pet-peeve PS: It's *irrelevant* (spell check is your friend)

10. Jerusalem is not eternal
Edited on Sat Aug-26-06 10:40 AM by IndianaGreen
It will cease to exist long before the Earth is incinerated and engulfed by a dying Sun millions of years from now, and no G-d of yours or mine can prevent that from happening.

You should avoid biblical references, they properly belong in church or synagogue, but not as part of public policy.

16. Who told you that humans were to outlast the dinosaurs, Jesus?
Dinosaurs were the dominant species far longer than humans could ever hope to be. Even without the degradation of the environment by humans, and the consequences thereof to our existence, the Earth's magnetic field is weakening as we speak. I doubt we will last another million years as a species.

No burnt offerings will save us from what will happen!

17. I don't talk to jesus much
Really I think arguing about whether humans will exist in a million years is silly. So I guess we will just have to disagree.

There is a short story by I. Asimov called "The Last Question" it's in the "Nine Tomorrows" compilation I think. Check it out, I think you would get a kick out of it.

the eternal capital of Israel, is what OrechDin said. I merely pointed out that there is no such thing, except to Bible thumpers.

8. El Salvador to move embassy from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv
<snip>

"El Salvador will move its embassy in Israel from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, the country's foreign ministry said on Friday.

El Salvador would have been the only country in the world left with an embassy in Jerusalem after Costa Rica announced on August 16 it would pull its diplomatic mission out of the city.

A U.S. ally which has a small contingent of troops in Iraq, El Salvador is governed by conservative President Tony Saca, who is of Palestinian Christian descent.

"Considering the current situation in the Middle East, El Salvador has decided to move its diplomatic representation in the state of Israel," the ministry said in a statement."

20. El Salvador and Costa Rica slammed for pulling embassies
A Jerusalem-based Christian Evangelical organization on Wednesday lambasted the recent decisions by the governments of Costa Rica and El Salvador to move their embassies from the capital to Tel Aviv, and urged them to reconsider the move.

"We are appalled by their recent decisions to... withdraw their embassies from Jerusalem, supposedly because of the recent war in Lebanon," the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem said in a press release.

"In actual fact, this war was good reason for them to stay, because Israel was undoubtedly the victim of Hizbullah's aggression, in violation of Israel's agreement with the United Nations in the year 2000, when it withdrew from Lebanon to internationally verified and recognized borders," said Malcolm Hedding, the organization's executive director.

The International Christian Embassy opened its Jerusalem office in 1980 as a sign of solidarity with Israel at a time when 13 foreign embassies pulled out of the city following the Knesset's landmark declaration that Jerusalem is and should remain the eternal capital of the State of Israel.

Over the last quarter century, Costa Rica and El Salvador were the only two countries to have an embassy in Jerusalem and their recent back-to-back decision to pull out will leave Israel's capital without any foreign embassy for the first time in 25 years.

Having the "International Christian Embassy" do it isn't sending the right message.

'ADL Urges El Salvador and Costa Rica to Reverse Decision Moving Embassies from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv

New York, NY, August 28, 2006 … Deeply distressed at announcements by El Salvador and Costa Rica that both intend to move their embassies in Israel to Tel Aviv, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today called on the leaders of both nations to reverse their decisions and maintain their official diplomatic offices in the capital city of Jerusalem.

"El Salvador and Costa Rica have for many years maintained a special and constructive relationship with Israel, so it would be a shame for those relations to sour now given the positive moral stand these countries had taken by maintaining their embassies in the eternal capital of the Jewish people," said Barbara B. Balser, ADL National Chair and Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.

"Given all that has happened with Hezbollah in the past few weeks, the timing couldn't be worse, for it gives the appearance that Costa Rica and El Salvador are punishing Israel for its decision to fight back against Hezbollah's unprovoked acts of aggression," the ADL leaders added.

In letters to President Elias Antonio Saca of El Salvador, and President Oscar Arias Sanchez of Costa Rica, the League expressed dismay at the announcements and urged both nations to "stand united with Israel against terrorism."
