Israel kidnapped 1/3 of the democratically elected palestinian parliament
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/5252356.stm

Another Hamas politician seized

Israeli troops have detained another Palestinian member of parliament during an overnight raid in the West Bank.

Fadl Hamdan, who is from the governing Hamas movement, was seized when troops raided his house in Ramallah. Israel has not said why it took him.

The incident came a day after Israeli forces detained the Hamas speaker of the Palestinian parliament, Aziz Dweik.

Parcel scare

Israel has detained about 30 MPs and a third of the Palestinian cabinet in the past six weeks.

Palestinian officials have called on the international community to intervene to secure their release.

This is a day old for LBN but i didnt see it posted here and i feel this is important.

8. I guess F16 and tanks is not a strong enough response !
When you see what Israel did in retaliation of killing/capturing few soldiers, palestinians should at least use their top-notch laser-innocent-avoiding-guided-missiles to target the hideouts of terrorists behind this unacceptable aggression. I don't understand why they don't do anything, they're ridiculing themselves !

3. This was news back then for about one news hour, not even a
24 hr cycle. I found that astounding. If another country came in and took a third of our legislators and part of the cabinet, we would be at war without hesitation and the hew and cry would be thunderous. Hardly a peep from the world though for the Palestinian cabinet.

10. you need to stop comparing israel to US
If we were surrounded but a half dozen terrorist organizations tacitly allowed at the canadian and mexican borders, threatening our extinction as their raison d'etre, you may react in a way that doesn't quite fit in with your current world view. We must stop looking at this current conflict in a vacuum.

A long time ago. Forgive me if I can't muster up the sympathy for them reaping the rewards of their bloodthirst.

12. And they call Palestinians terrorists???
Which is worse, state sponsored terrorism or an oppressed people fighting back.

I am constantly horrified when I see news stories like this. When Israel is asked why they did it, they say it was for their security, and that's the end of it.

What I find incredulous in this whole thing is how Israel can manage to criticize us (meaning anyone who doesn't agree with Israel) for not supporting this kind of action. We are the bad guys.

14. Israel has a long-standing policy of targeting terrorist leaders
Hamas is a terrorist organization whose mission is the destruction of Israel.

Just because they serve as legislators in the West Bank does not change the fact that they are terrorists.

If the Palestinian Authority (PA) fulfilled their responsibilities as outlined in the infamous "Road Map",
Hamas would have been dismantled and they would all be in jail.

CAMERA Primer on Palestinian Elections and Hamas
January 16, 2006 by Alex Safian, PhD

The Palestinian Authority is allowing the terrorist group Hamas to run in Legislative Council elections scheduled for Jan. 25th, despite the fact that under the Oslo Agreements the PA is obligated to disqualify from elections any racist or violent parties. Israel has protested Hamas's participation, and has refused to allow Hamas to campaign in areas Israel controls, such as east Jerusalem. Unfortunately Israel's decision to bar Hamas is often falsely portrayed by the media as unilateral and obstructionist, when, in fact, disqualifying groups like Hamas from elections is a solemn Palestinian obligation under the peace accords.

<snip>

While its racist charter alone is enough to bar Hamas from the elections, it is also excluded by the second clause regarding use of unlawful means – namely Hamas’s many suicide bombings and other deadly attacks against Israeli civilians.
