Villaraigosa Apologizes to L.A. Muslims for Pro-Israel Bias

The mayor of Los Angeles is apologizing to Muslim leaders for missing their invitations to interfaith peace vigils.

The leaders accused Antonio Villaraigosa (vee-yah-ry-GOH'-sah) of taking Israel's side in the violence in Lebanon by going to a pro-Israel rally. They say he didn't represent all groups touched by the conflict.

Villaraigosa met with ten Muslim leaders over the weekend and explained that a mix-up by his staff had prevented him from seeing their invitations.

The mayor has pledged to visit mosques and attend events in the city's Islamic communities. He's also assigned one of his senior advisers as liaison to Muslim groups.
