From Haaretz "A Smart, Successful War"
As the title suggests, the author talks about how Israel is doing a good job in this war. What struck me was the post below, where he claims they have world wide support for their actions. This surprised me.

I suggest you read the Talkback section at the bottom. It appears most people believe this guy is off the mark, which is a relief. For a minute there, I feared this article reflected the opinions within Israel.

"These limitations stem from the Israeli interest and from an explicit American request. They are the reason not only for the American support, but also for the understanding of the majority of the world's countries, including the tacit understanding of most of the Arab states. Similarly, the majority of Lebanese both in Lebanon and abroad want to see Hezbollah defeated and humiliated."

2. This is one pundit. How many moron pundits do we have in the U.S?
Editorials or op-ed pieces in any publication should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

3. I didn't know Rumsfeld was writing for Haaretz...

...under a pseudonym.

(On second thought, maybe it's Cheney. It doesn't ramble aimlessly enough for Rumsfeld.)

There's one bit here I found impossible to pass up:

Similarly, the majority of Lebanese both in Lebanon and abroad want to see Hezbollah defeated and humiliated.

If that had been true (and, for all I know, it might have been...as recently as a month ago), wouldn't it argue for "surgical strikes" against Hezbollah while making sure that the remainder of Lebanon that "want(s) to see Hezbollah defeated and humiliated" went untouched, rather than a military action that started off by wiping out key elements of the Lebanese infrastructure and indiscriminately bombing civilian targets, and only then going after Hezbollah itself? Raining destruction upon your putative, if tacet, allies in opposition to Hezbollah only assures that, once the dust settles, they won't be your allies, and they won't be in opposition to Hezbollah.
