UN emergency meeting on Gaza ends without vote
Last Updated Fri, 30 Jun 2006 10:03:07 EDT

Mansour had said he would call for the adoption of a resolution demanding a halt to all military actions, but no resolution was presented. The U.S. often vetoes resolutions aimed at Israel, calling them unbalanced.
Israel "could not tolerate a situation in which its citizens were being held hostage by members of a terrorist group," the UN reported that Israeli representative Daniel Carmon said.
"The military operation now taking place was specific in nature and limited in scope, and Israel was taking every effort to minimize any harm to Palestinian civilians."
More than 30 targets were hit during Israeli air strikes in the latest attack, and thousands of soldiers backed up by tanks were positioned in the southern Gaza Strip, poised to move into crowded coastal areas, a move put off by Israel to give Egyptian mediators time.

one thing I think we can all agree upon is that WW III has accelerated in pace. Slow to start on 9/11, we are rapidly picking up speed. Soon, every major country is going to be at war with its enemies, within and without.

25. This is exactly what thought went through my mind as I heard Faux news on
the TV in the room next door announcing this as Breaking News. (My Dad the right winger is visiting and watches Faux non-stop...)

I thought this exact thought....that WWIII's schedule just got bumped up to an earlier time slot...In fact the exact words that came out of my mouth as I walked into the room where my Dad was watching it, was "Well, there we have it...the act that will set WWIII off"

PS: I just heard on Faux news in the background with "Shep" announcing to the viewers that "War has broken out in the Middle East"....

16. And the world does nothing. And Bush harsly criticizes Hezbollah, Syria,
and Lebanon. Who are the REAL terrorists here? Soldiers in occupied territory are fair game in any war. Now eight Israeli soldiers have lost their lives and two more have been taken hostage. What sense does it make except that Israel can beat its chest about how much destruction they have caused and how many people they have killed to prove that they are the beast of the ME. Once again, US bombs and missiles have done their job in the ME. The humanitarian crisis that will be caused by this latest shameful attack by Israel will be huge.

The US will keep on sacrificing their children for this beast and they seem to do it with great pride. How sick!!

46. No Point....
You'll continue watching. If people didn't watch his show, he might not still have good ratings and remain on the air.

So it's good that you watch shows like "The Situation Room." It's important that they have steady viewership.

I know you could care less about the point I'm making. I guess for me, if I look out the window and see it raining, I don't need to walk outside to prove it really is. So why exactly do you have to make a post questioning the integrity and honesty of someone like blitzer? Did you expect him to suddenly become liberal? Did you think that TODAY would be the day he acted more like Keith Olbermann?

Well.....maybe tomorrow. I'll anxiously await reports as to how tomorrow's broadcast turns out.

74. Now what were they saying about their restrained response?
Doesn't sound terribly restrained.

75. Locking
From DU's rules.

Due to continuing problems, discussion of Israeli/Palestinian issues is limited to the Israel/Palestine forum, and is governed by a special set of rules which are available in that forum. If a discussion is primarily about US policy in Israeli/Palestinian affairs, it is sometimes allowed in other forums. Discussion of other Middle East issues is also sometimes allowed. If a thread is on a different topic, but later goes off-topic and becomes a discussion of Israeli/Palestinian issues, the moderators may move the thread to the Israel/Palestine forum.

From the I/P guidelines

New threads must be based on a recently-published news item or op-ed piece. They may not be based on editorial cartoons or photographs. Citations and references should include a link to the original source. Exceptions will be allowed if, based on prior approval, the moderators feel a thread is appropriate.
