JASON MILLER: Ravening Wolves in Sheep's Clothing
How Many More Innocents Must Die Before the World Realizes that Israel is Gathering Thorns and Thistles?

By JASON MILLER -- World News Trust

“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.”---Bishop Desmond Tutu

In Gaza, the elephant has finally removed its foot from the mouse’s tail. Much to the dismay of the mouse, the behemoth is not done with him. Not this elephant. He has decided to bring his immense weight to bear on the mouse’s miniscule body, sadistically reveling at the sight of the blood oozing from the mouse’s bodily orifices as it is gradually reduces it to a mass of flattened pulp.

I abandoned my neutrality long ago. My thoughts, prayers, support, and activist efforts as an essayist, small Internet publisher, and dissident against the American Empire are with the Palestinians. I am deeply sickened by fact that the United States government finances Israel’s genocide against the Palestinians with my tax dollars. It enrages me that AIPAC and bellicose supporters of Israel dictate so much of our foreign policy.

Enabler of Ethnic Cleansing

The elephant has received more than $140 billion in financial support from the United States since World War II. U.S. subsidies to the Israeli government and military average $15 million per day. Palestinian NGO’s were receiving a pitiful $232,000 per day (for non-military use only) from the United States prior to the termination of U.S. aid to punish Palestinians for choosing the “wrong” leaders in their democratic elections.

Thanks to America’s benevolence, Israel possesses a formidable military. Israel has more than 3,800 tanks, 1,500 large artillery pieces, 2,000 aircraft (including U.S.-manufactured F-16s), and is widely believed to possess powerful nuclear capabilities.

The mouse recently had the audacity to bite the elephant’s toe. Some of the more militant members of the Palestinian community, who refuse to quietly acquiesce to extermination, kidnapped an Israeli soldier, an 18 year old Jewish settler and a 62 year old Israeli man.

1. great piece. it's a truth that needs to be spoken more often
Israel is a rogue state, and it should be treated as such, not coddled.

4. It's a pretty lousy article
even though I agree that Israel is violating the Geneva convention by using collective punishment. However, the article is so grossly emotional, and the rhetoric so broad, that the author loses credibility. I deplore the use of this kind of language from whatever pov it comes from.

You state that Israel is a rogue state and should be treated as such. What does it mean to be a rogue state, and how should they be treated? Is the US a rogue state? How about China? They're occupying Tibet. Is simply labeling a country a rogue state useful, whether it's you labeling Israel a rogue state or bushco labeling N. Korea or Iran, a rogue state?

11. according to Chomsky, and I concur,
yes, the US and China are both rogue states.

What should be done? Like any rogue state, they should be ostracized from the international community and sanctioned accordingly.

12. Don't forget Russia
and Sudan and a few dozen other countries. You realize how quickly this teeters into the realm of the absurd, don't you? Just who's going to ostracize and sanction that many huge and powerful countries?

13. Start with the U.S.
Once we get taken down several notches, Israel will surely fall as well. Then the world community can continue one by one without the interference of the U.S.

15. I'm impatient with fantasies as solutions
for real world crisis. First of all, the US controls many of the mechanisms of world geo politics. Even if you got past that mighty obstacle, how would this practically work? Why bother indulging in such far out fantasies? What does it achieve?

2. some of the more militant members
the article refers to terrorists who kidnapped a 18 yr old and a 62 yr old civilian as "some of the more militant members"

those people that did the kidnapping are terrorists! what else do you call the kidnapping and killing of an innocent 18yr old? what else do you call the kidnapping of a 62yr old innocent civilian?

give me a break.

3. The Palestinians have no legitimate grievances!
The Israelis continue to be oppressed! Everyone knows what the problem is with those with the audacity to say otherwise.

5. This caustic
comment, almost identical, time after time, has become a meme on these threads. Oddly, I see very few people saying anything like the comment implies. Yet, repeatedly, it's directed to people who are pro-Israel, regardless of whether they're actually saying that Israelis are oppressed or that Palestinians have no legitimate grievances.

6. There those who leap to the defense of Israel
regardless. Palestine is always wrong, Israel is always the aggrieved party and perfectly right to kill a few Palestinians, bulldoze a couple of homes, bomb a few targets in Gaza, thus the cycle of violence continues. When the Palestinians inevitably retaliate, the same individuals quickly condemn the "terrorists", it is a litany of Israel right or wrong.

I was a strong Israel supporter at one time, I admired the plucky little Country fighting against the odds. I lost a lot of respect as I learned of things like the USS Liberty incident, the repeated spying incidents, the undue influence of AIPAC.

I tire of funding the killing of Palestinians. It is the major problem in our middle East policy at this time. If we could sit down and have an honest discussion about that policy we could do a lot of good. But until we address the elephant in the room, namely AIPAC, that cannot happen.

7. Let's hear it for honest
discussions, but snarky remarks don't lead to one. It's tempting, I know, and I've certainly indulged in it myself, but it's worth making an effort to steer clear of such indulgences. Just as there are rah rah Israel types who defend Israel even when they engage in gross violations, there are those that see Israel as unadulterated evil, and Palestinians as entirely innocent. It's never that simple.

I'm not sure that AIPAC is the elephant in the room. As far as I understand it, nothing they do is outside the law, so even though I disagree with them on virtually everything, I don't see how, other than pointing out that their efforts are not good for the US, the Palestinians, or Israel, anything can be done.

8. an honest discussion?
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 08:40 AM by pelsar
its not hard...just stick to the facts as much as possible and keep away from the "genocide" concentration camp mentality.....for every accusation at israel for being a rogue state, first compare the accusation to what other countries are doing. If one looks at the world around, one discovers that israeli is hardly the "evil of evils"

let me give some examples:
the occupation is the worst of the worst:....if so how would you describe the chinese occupation?

the israeli assault has no comparison-genocide...if so how does Russia's carpet bombing of Chechnya compare?

Liberty incident?...the how would you describe the multitude of incidents during WWII and after wards with the US and brit forces attacking their own navel ships?

attacking jenin, the "massacre"....what did the US forces do in Falluja? Russia in Chechnya? The Brits in Falklands? (sinking a battleship, that could have been avoided...)

"arresting terrorists and others?...in saudi arabia, egypt they all end up dead, England had quite the record in N.Ireland.

i could go on and on....but once things are kept in perspective then and only then can an "honest discussion be held about the various policies.

and most important of all, where they lead to....a place, few here want to go.
________

as far as defending israel....those of us who do, usually spend our time defending it against the usual bogus charges of genocide, planned killing of Palestinian children, conspiracies to take over the US, etc...we dont get much chance to have an "honest discussion"

(and the liberty incident?..if it was so deliberate, perhaps you could explain why of the two flights of israeli jets, none were caring armaments necessary to sink a ship?-20mm, napalm, and rockets are designed for air to air and infantry-NOT ship sinking.)

9. I apologize for the snarkiness, I suppose I have this habit
from working in jobs with teams of smart-asses, it was gained for self defense more then anything else. You make a very positive point however, one I shall keep in mind. As I said, I am actually generally supportive of Israel, I am for a just negotiated peace in the middle East. I am severely frustrated by our inability to reach it.

It is a topic where passions run high, with good reason. I just believe some may have closed minds when it comes to this subject. I suppose that is the point I was trying to make with those comments. But they were born from my frustration, I abhor the violence on both sides, I agree that Israel has made dramatic concessions and been rewarded with cowardly suicide bombings. I also say that on occasion the IDF has contributed, indeed incited the chain of violence that causes these young people to end their earthly existences thusly. Our collective failure to break this chain and pacify the Middle East is one of the great failures of this generation of Humankind.

17. liberty...(a bit off topic)
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 12:10 PM by pelsar
no question that 50cal or 20mm are "nasty stuff"..but neither can sink a ship quickly...so too with torpedos (sometimes they do and sometimes they dont). And if fact the Libertys survival is proof of that.

But if ones goal is to sink a small ship fast nothing beats a 500lb bombs. Drop two or three and the ship breaks up and sinks- that was show to be true during WWII.

and the IAF proved its competence with those a few days earlier. Point is, as in any preplanned mission, one loads up with the most appropriate equipment...those jets had nothing of the sort.

it was, what is was, an opportune target that turned out to be a mistake...a very common occurance during wartime.
____________

as far as the IDF and govt of israels scewups....they are plenty, being held "hostage" to the settlers due to a govt system that in practice rewards the "crooked" politician and not the "people oriented one" is just one, I could go on and on....i just need a chance to rant about it with people who can keep the discussion on an honest level....

14. Rubuking Jason Miller's Embracing Of Jihad Against America
(Rejoinder to Jason Miller's WNT commentary Ravening Wolves in Sheep's Clothing)

By Steven Srebrenick -- World News Trust

Miller? Is that name Jewish or German? Either way, your ignorance is abhorrent. And your editorial is a juxtaposition of either your direct hatred of your own Jewish culture by way of Christian and Muslim guided anti-Semitism, or you must be just some Nazi. I can't tell, but from what you wrote, you have some low moral standards to boldly back a group so vengeful, in that Israel REQUIRED the help of the United States all these years because EVERY COUNTRY around that area wanted to see the eradication of the Jews there and in other parts of the world at the time of the formation of Israel.

You should probably look into some introspective psychoanalysis, for yourself, and especially for those you care for, because you are obviously disturbed and a possible threat to the safety of your own family with a hateful attitude like you possess and intent to share that hatred with as many as you can.

What the heck is your motivation? Do you even know anyone that has lived there, or are you like so many others that just take the reported historical so-called facts and draw your conclusions from the reported information? Do you know anyone whose family was either killed during the holocaust, or anyone who has concentration camp survivors in their family? I do know people who lived there, and from that perspective, if you have not seen that side, you really should shut your stupid trap before just regurgitating propagandist "facts" and opinion based in hatred against the most persecuted group of humans in many years.

They've finally gotten lucky enough to get a country as great the one in which you live to stick up for them.

as the OP. If you're point is that stupid and hateful comes in an assortment of flavors, you'll get no argument from me.
