14. It is my understanding that the head of Hamas is in Syria
Maybe they are pressuring Syria to give him up in exchange for the soldier.

21. So this is appropriate?
Israel has a problem with Gaza and threatens Syria? This is ok with you?

Also "give him up in exchange for the soldier"? What sense does that make? Syria should turn over the leader of Hamas in exchange for the palestinians turning over the soldier they took prisoner? Such a deal.

25. golly I'm not getting into this
I thought I might lend some insight into Israeli motivations without taking sides. It appears that I am now some Zionist racist. I gave no hint of my feeling on the correctness of their actions - I was only reporting what I heard on the radio.

I. Take. No. Sides. In. This. Get it?

I expect your apology now.

29. Could you please put some more words in my mouth?
I didn't call you anything. I asked if you thought this was appropriate. I also did not understand your point about an exchange. You have clarified nothing. No apology expected however.

7. Wow
You're all over the place advocating an all out war in the middle east. Are you sure you've got the right address?

And I feel so bad for those poor israelis always getting pushed around.

they set off a sonic boom right over the presidential palace (or wherever he lives).

Maybe Israel got tired of waiting for us?

8. I think they might have found it useful for us
to go to Syria. We spent a buncha time "near the Syrian border", according to the news.

12. Israel will regret giving up territory in Gaza.
The town of Skerot in Israel has been hit numerous times by kassam rockets coming from there, and now this kidnapping of a young soldier.

26. you mean
the place that regularly was an area that had syrian soldiers firing down rockets into israel?

according to UN resolution 242, the final borders of israel are to be determined thru negotiation but they have a right to safe and defensible borders.

the golan heights are that. prevent the syrians from firing rockets into israel.

22. The town has been hit, and little else.
But by removing the settlements from Gaza, the last restriction on turning all of Gaza into a freefire zone was also removed.

27. Israel

Damascus is home to a dozen terrorist organizations and this has been building for a long time ...

Israel is doing what they must do to survive as they are surrounded by 21 countries with one
intention: complete destruction of Israel as a country

get along with their neighbors instead of bullying them all the time, don't it?

30. Yeah, you'd think!
And as far as "doing what they have to do," I don't see how this action is any kind of necessary response to anything having to do with Syria whatsoever.

31. Oh nonsense.
Israel is trying to pressure Syria to strongarm the Palestinians to cough up their prisoner. This is not about any explicit actions by Syria at all.

34. No. But they'll get somebody.
Syria's been adept at managing their own press and reputation in the UN in re: Israel for a number of years.

They're big boys. They can fend for themselves.

33. wow, Latakia's pretty far north--almost in Turkey
there are so many permutations for WWIII--they should just have a wheel with some indicators, like on Wheel of Fortune, and with each sector labeled "Iran," "Syria," "Russia," "India," "Venezuela," "Belize"... and spin it to determine who Israel, the U.S., Britain, Sudan, etc. attack
