Army to pay NIS 82,000 to officer fully acquitted of violating army rules by shooting at body of 12-year-old Palestinian girl

Hanan Greenberg

The IDF will be forced to pay NIS 82,000 (about USD 17,500) in compensation following the acquittal of a captain who was accused of violating army rules by shooting at a 12-year-old Palestinian girl near an army post.

The compensation will be paid according to an agreement between the parties, which came into force Wednesday at the IDF Southern Command's military court.

Some NIS 80,000 (USD 17,000) will be paid for defense expenses and detention days, and another NIS 2,000 (about USD 450) will be paid as legal expenses to the officer's lawyers. The judges ruled that the money will be transferred to the officer, who was recently promoted to the rank of major, within one month.

The officer's defense attorneys, Elad Eisenberg and Yoav Meni, asked the court that the army pay the officer's legal expenses and that he be compensated for the 104 days he spent in custody, amounting to NIS 154,000 (about USD 33,000).

The major currently serves as the Givati brigade's deputy assistant chief of operations.

1. No surprises there...
No surprise that her name doesn't even rate a mention, and no surprise that a military court would result in this sort of travesty of justice....

Violet....

2. And so the anger of the Palestinians becomes easier to understand
Palestinians are treated as non-humans -- and the murdering bastards who murder children are rewarded

4. So you don't believe the IDF officer
That's what this issue comes down to IMO, whether the officer's statements are truthful. I think what happened was tragic, but I accept the officers statements at face value, you don't.

YOur post title is accurate, it is easy to understand palestinian anger when most if not all the info disseminated by the palestinians and Arab media is propoganda, same thing in western europe with papers like the Guardian.

6. Interesting response
"And no I would never accept an Israeli's statement as truthful..."

I think that says it all about your position. At least you don't pretend to be objective.

"Soldiers should never be allowed to revert to sub human savages -- (this includes the US troops in Afghanistan and Iraq). If soldiers commit crimes -- they must be held accountable."

I agree with you 100%.

3. Haaretz;
IDF officer cleared in death of Gaza girl to receive compensation from state

By Amos Harel, Haaretz correspondent

A Givati Brigade officer will receive NIS 80,000 in compensation from the state after he was cleared of all charges in relating to the death of 13-year-old Palestinian girl, Iman Al Hamas, in the much-publicized "confirmed kill" affair.

Captain "R" will receive NIS 80,000 in compensation from the state in addition to reimbursement for NIS 2,000 of legal expenses, as part of an arrangement reached between his lawyers and the military prosecution.

The agreement was made official Wednesday in the Israel Defense Forces's Southern Command court.

The officer, who at the time of the incident was serving as a company commander in the Givati infantry brigade's Shaked battalion, has since been promoted to major, and is currently serving as an operations officer in the brigade.

The judges who acquitted Captain R accepted his version of event, in which he stated that the shots that he fired were not aimed directly at the girl's body. Captain R told the court he opened fire in order to create a deterrence, and that he believed that the young girl posed a serious threat.

8. The refuseniks are the true heroes of Israel. Like the
US heroes who refuse to fight bush's wars of terror.
