High Court okays reduced benefits for Gush Katif settlers
An extended panel of High Court justices on Wednesday unanimously rejected a petition by Gush Katif settlers against the reduction of the compensation paid out to them following the evacuation from Gaza.

The petitioners had refused to leave their homes voluntarily within 48 hours of the start of the disengagement, as required by the Evacuation-Compensation Law.

According to the law, families that did not leave their homes on time would each lose approximately one third of the compensation money, which includes the "Negev, Galilee and Nitzanim grant" (NIS 30,000), a seniority payment (NIS 4,800 per family member for each year of living on the settlement), reimbursement of removal costs (between NIS 14,0000 and NIS 21,000) and indemnity from the purchase tax on a new home.

1. Good.
These idiot fundie holdouts cost the state a bucketful of cash, stirred up a hatful of hatred and made a LOT of people very, very afraid.

I understand that they lost not only their homes but as they see it, their homeland... and I do have SOME sympathy.

Not a whole lot, however. They were settled on stolen land. They were lucky the IDF did not lose patience and remove them from the land in a similar fashion to that with which they remove the Palistinians - with Bulldozers, Bullhorns and BULLETS. But this would not have been possible without a massive Orthodox backlash.
