An extended panel of High Court justices on Wednesday unanimously rejected a petition by Gush Katif settlers against the reduction of the compensation paid out to them following the evacuation from Gaza.
The petitioners had refused to leave their homes voluntarily within 48 hours of the start of the disengagement, as required by the Evacuation-Compensation Law.
According to the law, families that did not leave their homes on time would each lose approximately one third of the compensation money, which includes the "Negev, Galilee and Nitzanim grant" (NIS 30,000), a seniority payment (NIS 4,800 per family member for each year of living on the settlement), reimbursement of removal costs (between NIS 14,0000 and NIS 21,000) and indemnity from the purchase tax on a new home.
