Two Qassam rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip on Monday, landing in the western Negev and prompting an IDF artillery strike on rocket launchers in response. No injuries were reported on either side.
One Qassam landed near a kindergarten in a kibbutz south of Sderot during a Hanukkah party for the children, and another south of the city of Ashkelon.
Israeli leaders threatened to intensify air strikes inside Gaza to enforce a buffer zone aimed at curbing militant rocket fire.
"Following the launching of Qassam rockets and mortar shells at Israeli targets, the Israeli army is now responding with artillery fire into an open area in the northern Gaza Strip from where Palestinians have been launching rockets," an army statement said.
