The prime minister, who will be 78 in February, apparently suffered a light stroke and was taken directly to the trauma room in the hospital. The senior medical staff of the hospital was called in to treat him.
Channel 1 reported that the prime minister was on the way to Tel Aviv on the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway when he felt unwell. Sharon reported this to his son Omri over the phone, and Omri ordered his security detail to take him directly to the hospital.
According to Channel 1, and contrary to earlier reports from several sources, the prime minister did not lose consciousness at any point, and even walked on his own into the trauma room. Other reports claimed the prime minister lost consciousness on the ride to the hospital, and Sharon was taken into the trauma room on a stretcher.
