local murderer gets life in prison
and damn if she doesn't deserve it! And damn if the pukes in this county didn't cover it up! Has anyone heard of this story?

This woman went out, got a wig, bought a gun to go with it and shot this guy in the head! She got life in prison - no death penalty for her.

Local news makes good? Sadly enough I knew the guy she murdered!

Now we pay for her to be in prison for the rest of her life!

1. Re: "Now we pay for her to be in prison for the rest of her life!"
I've been thinking more lately about some manner of a restitution requirement in sentences. I'm not very familiar with the workings of prisons, but I would guess there's no reason prisoners couldn't work an 40 hour week like everyone else - unless they are mentally/physically unable to of course. Then money could go toward their keeping, some restitution, and some manner of savings in case they ever qualify for release. I read something about this on a libertarian board once, if I find it I'll repost it if anyone is interested. As it was written by a libertarian, parts of it are not particularly progressive, but I remember some of it seemed very workable.

2. If they're in prison
how are you going to force them to work? If they don't want to work are you going to threaten them with more prison time?

This is not a feasible suggestion.

3. Easy peasy...
Make it where they have to buy their own food, you know, kind of like us people in the outside world live.

If you dont work and cant afford to eat because of it then i guess thats tough luck eh. Now if they are unable to work then maybe they can get an exemption, or if there are no available jobs, then they get an exemption, but if there is work to be had, and you can do it, you better.

Thinking about it perhaps linking work with something they desire would be effective. Solitary, vitamin loaf, water, bath could be a minimum provided. Then if they want more, weights, better food, tv, pornography, or whatever, let them work to pay for those things and tax that money for their keep and provide some percentage of it to victims. If they'd rather keep the minimums and not do anything productive, then that shouldn't be very expensive - and they can't hurt others, or at least will have a hard time hurting others, in solitary.
