Nearly two dozen people are in federal custody, and another four are wanted, after a round-up of alleged violators of federal firearms laws.
A federal grand jury indicted 14 people, and police last week also arrested another nine fugitives who were previously indicted on firearms charges.
U.S. Attorney for Utah Paul Warner announced the arrests in a Wednesday news conference.
"This isn't a flash in the pan, a one-time round-up and indictment," Warner said. "This is simply an indication of what's happened in the last week."
Since the inception nearly four years ago of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative that aims to take guns out of the hands of restricted persons, the U.S. Attorney's Office has brought indictments against 985 individuals involving nearly 2,400 guns.
Last week's round-up involved some 40 weapons, from sawed-off shotguns to rifles and pistols, according to Warner.
One man targeted in the operation, Benjamin Jorgensen, was arrested after a probation officer allegedly found a .45-caliber handgun tucked in the waistband of his pants. Jorgensen, 28, was recently released from the Utah State Prison and only two days before was warned by law enforcement officers about the possible penalties of possessing a firearm.
