" .......Police want bigger bullets and bigger guns, but Mayor Jane Campbell won't buy them because she's afraid of upsetting residents who don't trust the police, Beck said........."

1. Same thing happened at Kent State
Officers needed new rifles to replace the older ones they had. They wound up paying almost twice as much for Browning rifles because the public objected to them buying the better (and less expensive) M-16s they wanted.

2. They wanted AR-15 semi-autos
Not M-16s. Those are automatic and ill suited to police use.

6. Removing select-fire capability....
converts an M-16 into an AR-15.

8. Actually
It doesnt.

The receiver will still say 'M-16a2', or maybe 'a1', depending on how old the ones they're getting are.

Just as converting an 'AR-15' to full-auto or select-fire does not make it an M-16, it simply makes it a full-auto (or select-fire) AR-15.

9. Oh, no...
Not the "Once a machinegun always a machinegun" argument... ;-)

You can mount a Mercedes emblem on a Volkswagon. It'll say "Mercedes". That doesn't mean the Volkswagon has become a Mercedes.

11. Exactly. An M-16 is always an M-16 regardless of the modifications
And an AR-15 is an AR-15, even if modified to fire full-auto.

You DO realize that you're hurting your own arguement here, don't you?

7. The Gun-Demon strikes again. The gross ignorance of elected
officials knows no bounds.
