The vote Committee Vice-Chair John Vasconcellos (D-13) was one of the 2 deciding votes that allowed this bill to die in commitee.

A .38 in a little 9mm pistol will blast straight through a phone book...What do they need a 50 cal for?

2. You should read up on guns a little.
"A .38 in a little 9mm pistol will blast straight through a phone book"

A .38 is one type of ammunition. A 9mm is another. You cannot put a 38 cartridge in a 9mm pistol. A 9mm pistol is a pistol that uses 9mm ammunition.

As for why would someone need a .50 caliber weapon for. Competitive shooting, recreational shooting, hunting, any number of things, however, the beauty of the right to keep and bear arms is that you do not have to prove need to buy a particular weapon.

Besides, there are any number of weapons chambered in calibers larger than .50, although with a few exceptions, many are classified "destructive devices" and there are many licensing hoops to jump through in order to obtain one.

3. While you're absolutely right,
hunting with a .50 caliber is a little much.

4. I would agree,
with the qualifier that, although I personally find hunting distasteful, some do hunt large game that they claim require such a high power weapon. Like I said, I don't know. It seems to me that anything that needs a .50 caliber to bring it down, well, maybe it doesn't really need to be hunted.

Now, when it comes to competitive long range shooting, the .50 BMG is in a league of its own. It is the weapon of choice for those who shoot at distances up to and over 1000 yards, distances which are unfathomable to me.
