2 SHOT DEAD AT VIRGINIA TECH
http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/virginia-tech

Another shooting at Virginia Tech today. Good thing that "gun free safe zone" is protecting the innocent.

1. Virginia is the state that lets any idiot buy a gun.
Kinda dumb to pretend you can have a gun free zone when you make so much money selling them to gun happy assholes.

3. Virginia has much tighter gun sale laws than most US states.
And uses the same background check you get in California or New York. Try again.

17. They aren't hard to find. Go to a TBag rally where participants are encouraged to pack.

20. What about progressive Democrats who don't go to TBag rallies but legally carry guns?
Are they "gun happy assholes" too? I'm just trying to figure out how broad your brush is.

5. You say that like...

VA doesnt do the same thing every other state does.

You still get a NICS check run. You still have to pass it. You still have to meet all the same requirements you do anywhere else.

Do you have a clue what you're talking about, or are you just spewing random accusations in the hopes that something might be true?

PS - its also kinda dumb to pretend a gun free zone can even exist when you're essentially expecting the bad guy to operate on the honor system.

9. Does the state make money selling guns? Have I missed our FAC stores?

6. Person just happened to be pulled over by a cop at VT...
Nothing to do with being on Campus or college kids being intended victims.

8. And how, prey tell, would guns on campus have changed things?
This is the only information available at that link:

Law enforcement officials tell NBC News they believe the second shooting victim at Virginia Tech University was the man who shot and killed the campus policeman.
NBC's Pete Williams reports that authorities say they're awaiting final confirmation but that they believe the campuswide alert for a gunman at large will soon be canceled.

So how would students, etc. having guns have changed the situation. A campus policeman was shot and killed, and the shooter was in turn shot and killed. We don't know who killed the gunman, and it is certainly inappropriate to suggest that more guns on campus would have changed anything. If anything, it looks like a criminal violation of the gun-free policy caused this tragedy.

12. Nobody said they would
The guy shot a cop over a traffic stop. What caused this tragedy was not a violation of the "gun free" policy (which only applies to people actively attending the school or working there IIRC), but the criminal actions of one man.

Anyone who believes the policy would have been followed by this type of individual is a damned fool.

13. I have to disagree....
...the gun-free laws restrict anyone (with a few exceptions) from carrying within 1000 feet of a school, private property excepted. The gun was recovered on campus.

But I agree, expecting the criminals to follow the law is worse than foolish.

14. The Gun Free School Zone Act
Was overturned by the USSC - US v. Lopez....It never did apply to university level environments anyway.

VA Tech's "gun free policy" is not law - but a school policy. Nothing more. All the school can do if you violate it is request that you leave as it does not carry the force of law.

24. I firmly believe...
...and actively encourage people to carry a firearm anywhere they are legally able to do so - if they wish to of course.

I also actively work to change laws which restrict carrying for arbitrary reasons.

You have a problem with that? It is my right after all - or does free speech only apply to those things with which you agree?

16. who knows?
Unless you know all of the specifics of the case, there is no way of knowing. Did he even come in contact with any students? Did he even enter any of the buildings? If the answer is not to my questions, that is also the answer to your question.

25. As with all police officer deaths...
I'm going to anxiously await the facts of the case. It's quite relevant to my interests.

My heart goes out to the family of the fallen officer. It's just a job, until it becomes something much more serious.

The man murdered a police officer. There's nothing cool or funny about that.

Some people just can't resist dipping their hands in a dead cops' blood.
