Crazed Bus Shooter in Queens NY Kills Two
Edited on Mon Dec-05-11 03:31 AM by mikeb302000
http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/crazed-bus-shooter-hoping-blood-bath-prosecutors-article-1.986394?localLinksEnabled=false">The NY Daily News reports

Damel Burton carried a 9-mm. Ruger pistol with four rounds in it, and was carrying another nine rounds

The crazed ex-con who killed his girlfriend's son then opened fire inside a Queens bus packed with commuters, killing another man, was hoping for a bloodbath, prosecutors charge.

"The defendant stated that he would have shot more people but the gun jammed," prosecutor Suzanne O'Hare said in Queens Criminal Court during Damel Burton's arraignment.

Recently, http://mikeb302000.blogspot.com/2011/11/million-rugers-in-one-year.html">when I mentioned that Ruger was a crap gun, no one seemed to agree. I suppose Damel Burton would.

Another thing the pro-gun crowd keep denying is that gun availability plays a part in these situations. http://mikeb302000.blogspot.com/2011/12/new-york-to-tighten-up-gun-laws.html">Can you imagine that in New York City, where there are extremely strict gun control laws, a guy as crazy and paranoid as Damel, with a long felony record to boot, was able to get his hands on a gun. It's unbelievable and it's unacceptable. But the explanation is simple, and so is the solution.

What's your opinion? Please leave a comment.

2. Plenty of our gun carrying friends here would have shot him before he got off his first shot.

The minute the perp stood up to fire, they would have pulled their weapon(s) and squeezed off a perfect shot to the head without endangering other passengers. Yea, right.

In fact, if our gun friends here had their way -- ten riders would have pulled their weapon(s) and squeezed off a shot without one other passenger being hit.

3. The bus driver, on the other hand, would have been capped by one of the heroes' misses.
Welcome to the new normal in Armed America.

But don't you dare blame it on trivially-easy access
to guns!

6. define hero
Edited on Mon Dec-05-11 09:35 AM by gejohnston
The bus driver, on the other hand, would have been capped by one of the heroes' misses.

That is more likely by a cop, partly because the typical CCW person knows something about guns, cops often do the bare minimum training and practice.

Welcome to the new normal in Armed America.

It is less common now than before, we just didn't have cable it-bleeds-it-leads "news"

But don't you dare blame it on trivially-easy access to guns!

A felon in New York City? He would have equally easy access in Rome, Toronto, London

Here is a question: If one of the VT victims while hiding and evading the lunatic that was shooting up the place (while the cops stood around outside with their fingers up their asses listening to the shots) happen to have a pistol and shot Cho, would that student be vilified by your side as a vigilante "hero"?

17. I blame your "new normal" on "crazed ex-cons"...
"The defendant stated that he would have shot more people but the gun jammed,"

No, I blame this crime on a "crazed ex-con," not the gun. He is an obvious example of the HyperPunk -- one who desires to commit mayhem and death. Maybe the real issue is why this HyperPunk was outside of his warehouse.

(hypothetically) Do you smoke pot? (hypothetically) Can you get hold of it easily?

5. I'm sure the perp was a law abiding CCW.
Go figure, the rest of the law abiding citizens on the bus were just simply abiding the draconian NYC firearms laws.

The problem is simple: NYC gun laws are wrong.

The solution: restore full civil rights to NYC citizens.

11. I'm sure you skip examples regularly posted on this forum. So try Loughner and Cho for starters.

Then tell us how they were not "lawful gun owners" under your gun preserving definition.

What did VT campus police do while students were being murdered? Oh yeah, sit outside and listen to the shots.

18. Actually, Cho wasn't a "lawful gun owner," but the paperwork wasn't...
passed up the food chain. Government bureaucracy trying to keep up with gun-control laws, many unfunded.

And I believe Virginia was "second best" in the most paperwork shoved upstream when compared with the other states. (California may have been first at the time.)

Loughner was a nut case, but nut cases have a way of flummoxing the bureaucracies: Too afraid and/or institutionally sympathetic to a spittle-flying bully, too underfunded to put him through adjudication.

Those are the real problems.

20. For starters...
Edited on Mon Dec-05-11 05:36 PM by We_Have_A_Problem
Loughner was a nutball. The local constabulary failed in their job to do the proper reporting.

In Cho's case, he was also severely mentally flawed, and his parents obviously never got him the help he needed.

Yes, both were technically legal to own firearms, but in both cases, obviously someone had dropped the ball.

You want perfection? Forget it. Isn't going to happen.

If those are the sole examples you have though, they are hardly enough to support your claim.

21. Loughner was an unlawful user of controlled substances.
And thereby a prohibited person, according to federal law.

Got any other examples?

22. He passed and got his gun. If laws can't control who buys, maybe we need to cut back on gun sales.

I will listen for the whining from those who'll never have enough guns or places to carry them.

unless there are metal detectors, don't see how he would be prevented by that. He could have just as easily got one from his drug connection.

Time for you to get that through your skull. What laws do is apply penalties for certain behavior after the fact.

"If laws can't control who buys, maybe we need to cut back on gun sales."

If you can't control purchases through law, what makes you think you could control sales through law?

In the meantime, I'll be listening for the sound of the giant explosion sure to happen, when - like antimatter meeting matter - your fundamental disconnect, finally connects.

15. I just can't believe that in a city like New York, that it's legal for a
crazed ex-con to be carrying around a pistol. Wait, is this a trick? It's not legal. So in spite of it's draconian gun laws in New York, it still happened. Criminals doing criminal things, eh.

"Recently, when I mentioned that Ruger was a crap gun, no one seemed to agree."

I would love to see why you think Ruger is a crap gun, but I'm not gonna read your piece of crap blog to find out why. I own two Rugers, a 9mm and a .40 cal and both are fine pistols. I am more partial to the .40, it fits my hand better and has a better recoil.

No one is gonna click on your blind links so if you want us to read your shit, post it here.

Unrec for the usual reasons.

Some sort of half-assed attempt at expiation? Who knows, but thankfully they have little chance of success.
