Cumberland County (NJ) police officials: the guns (from the South) cannot be stopped, criminals can

http://www.nj.com/cumberland/index.ssf/2011/12/cumberland_county_police_offic.html

In the wake of a spate of shootings across Cumberland County, three police administrators said longer mandatory sentences and no plea deals would help reduce the number of local gun crimes.

Most of these crimes are being committed with firearms purchased in southern states, where gun laws are less restrictive.

“Eight times out of 10 the guns come from down South,” said Captain Michael Gaimari of the Bridgeton Police Department.

“Primarily Georgia, Virginia and the other states down South where the purchasing laws are lax. A person will buy several, and the background checks we find sometimes not to be done. We’ve recovered guns still in boxes, and they’re usually traced to someone down South who said they sold it recently.”

9. Why aren't they coming from Washington State then?
Our laws are just as 'lax' (which of course you will NEVER define)

2. Cumberland County WHERE?
Edited on Sun Dec-04-11 11:08 AM by MicaelS
If you're going to post this shit, the least you can do is post the state where it is taking place.

As in Cumberland County, NJ, or is that too much to ask?

Bridgeton Police Chief Mark Ott is of the opinion that no matter what is done to stop them, criminals will always be able to gain possession of a gun if they really want it.

“Here’s one way to look at it. If criminals can import tons of illegal narcotics into the country they can import tons of foreign firearms,” he said.

“People get what they want if they’re determined to get it. Kind of like the old phrase ‘Locks are for honest criminals.’”

10. How do the guns do that?
"Most of these crimes are being committed with firearms purchased in southern states, where gun laws are less restrictive." Do you suppose they hire local gangsters?

11. Umm, the Brady Campaign says VA, NC, and AL are *stricter* than the national average.
The Brady Campaign state rankings put NC, VA, and AL as tied for 14th-strictest in the nation, and ranks them as stricter than Vermont, Delaware, Maine, New Hampshire, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, among others.

The South is *not* the most pro-gun region of the nation, by a long shot. That is one of the legacies of Reconstruction; southern states passed a whole lot of gun laws to keep guns out of the "wrong color hands."
