Support for gun control at record low.
http://blogs.dailymail.com/donsurber/archives/45111

"The Second Amendment has rebounded in the last half-century as support doubled since 1959, the Gallup poll reported. Nearly 3 out of every 4 Americans now opposes a ban on handguns — only 1 in four are for banning possession of a handgun. In 1959, 60% of Americans favored banning handguns — and only 36% opposed such an affront to the Second Amendment."

So much for that backlash.

3. gun advocates are not interested in the 2nd amendment
it applies within the construct of a well regulated militia. The bastardization of our constitution by the gun/death industry and it's is appalling.

5. No, it doesn't. You might actually want to read it instead of what you think it says.
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The preamble clause does not mean what you think it does, a fact recognized by hundreds of years of jurisprudence including a unanimous Supreme Court decision. It's only relatively recent spin that tries to assert that the second amendment does not cover an individual right.

6. This is now a matter of settled Constitutional law.
The second amendment is an individual right irregardless of membership in any organization.

This was the unanimous opinion of all 9 Supreme Court Justices, even the dissenters.

4. 100% of criminals support a ban on handguns.
They don't like it when people they choose to rob/rape/carjack/etc are capable of fighting back.
