Girl, 14, killed by shot near middle school

The Associated Press - COLUMBUS, Ga.

A 14-year-old girl was shot in the back and died Thursday in a wooded area near her old middle school after a reunion visit with her former teachers.

A 13-year-old boy was charged with murder.

Bianca Walton, a Carver High School freshman, was shot as she and a group of other students fled from the woods about 150 feet from Marshall Middle School, police said.

Police said a number of youths had gone into the woods after hearing of a fight brewing between two boys. After one of the boys pulled a gun, the group scattered. A bullet intended for one of the feuding boys hit Bianca instead, police said.
