Maine Lawmaker Rep. Frederick Wintle - Picking Up the Pieces
http://www.pressherald.com/news/lawmaker-seeks-return-to-house_2011-08-10.html">The Portland Press Herald reports

Gun charges against a state lawmaker might be resolved in time for him to rejoin the Legislature, his attorney said Tuesday.

That's right, that's how they do it. Raging out-of-control maniacs are often allowed to plea-bargain or even request to have their charges dropped. And the pro-gun crowd, who never tire of complaining about the lenient sentencing guidelines for criminals, applaud. At least they applaud as long as the offending gun owner can somehow claim to be one of the good guys. For them, just about anything goes, "bad rules be damned," is their expression. And if the guy goes too far, they simply cut him off and relegate him to the dark side of criminal gun owners.

I've often had a hard time distinguishing one from the other, the good guys from the bad guys. I believe there's a big gray area.

4. That's no straw man
The issue is should gun owners who do what he did be able to retain their gun rights? Should they be able to hold public office.

http://mikeb302000.blogspot.com/2011/03/man-who-would-be-king.html">I have a simple answer for them.

This particular guy should be working in the gardening section of Walmarts.

5. Yes... Straw man.
That's right, that's how they do it. Raging out-of-control maniacs are often allowed to plea-bargain or even request to have their charges dropped.
Here you are stuffing your straw man.

And the pro-gun crowd, who never tire of complaining about the lenient sentencing guidelines for criminals, applaud. At least they applaud as long as the offending gun owner can somehow claim to be one of the good guys.
Then you stand him up.

For them, just about anything goes, "bad rules be damned," is their expression. And if the guy goes too far, they simply cut him off and relegate him to the dark side of criminal gun owners.
Here is where you come flying in and drop-kick him to the ground. I'd say you hit a home run, but you are the only one playing.

"Bad rules be damned!" if I had a nickel for every time I said that... My pockets would be empty. Since you put it in quotes, may I ask who exactly were you quoting?

You are arguing a point that no one made.

What's your opinion? Please leave a comment.

9. Don't forget this:
"I've often had a hard time distinguishing one from the other, the good guys from the bad guys. I believe there's a big gray area."

More insinuation that legal gun owners are merely criminals looking for an opportunity.

15. well, that's not exactly true
I'm arguing a point that's been made plenty. Try a little google action. You obviously have not been reading the right gun blogs.

Of course, aside from the exact wording of the attitude, there's a sentiment expressed therein which you might be able to relate to. Can you, Glassunion? Did you ever break a law that you felt deserved breaking?

I'm arguing a point that's been made plenty.
No it has not. If it has been made "plenty", I'm sure you could cite "plenty" of examples.

Try a little google action. You obviously have not been reading the right gun blogs."
I did. Could you point me to the "right" gun blogs. I guess my GoogleFu is weak.

Of course, aside from the exact wording of the attitude, there's a sentiment expressed therein which you might be able to relate to.
No, I cannot relate to the sentiment. PERIOD
No matter how many times you say it, no matter how many times you assert it, it makes it no more true. Unless you can back up the sentiment and statements that you have made.

Let's go back to your OP.
And the pro-gun crowd, who never tire of complaining about the lenient sentencing guidelines for criminals We do never tire of complaining about the lenient sentencing. We never tire of complaining about how gun charges are usually the first to be dropped. But then you finish your statement with , applaud. We do not. I dare you to back up that assertion with some real evidence. I would love to see any of the pro-gun crowds(NRA, GOA, SAF, etc..) who are backing up this ass-hat's actions. Or where any pro-gun crowd has supported any "raging out-of-control maniac" who has used their firearm illegally.

At least they applaud as long as the offending gun owner can somehow claim to be one of the good guys. For them, just about anything goes, "bad rules be damned," is their expression.
For us... No, anything DOES NOT go. You can state it 100 times and it will still not be an accurate statement.

Back to your reply...
Of course, aside from the exact wording of the attitude, there's a sentiment expressed therein which you might be able to relate to. Can you, Glassunion? Did you ever break a law that you felt deserved breaking?
Nope. Not once. You have made a claim that those who are pro-gun, applaud the ability of "Raging out-of-control maniacs" to continually plea bargain or have their charges dropped when they misuse their firearms. And that we have the attitude that if we feel that a firearm law is bad that we will have no problem breaking, or have broken that law. You further assert that I personally "might" be able to relate. Please feel free to continue telling other people what their actions, motives, feelings and intentions are. It helps those in the discussion have an understanding of who wants to have an honest conversation.

7. Who applauds the actions of criminals?
That's right, that's how they do it. Raging out-of-control maniacs are often allowed to plea-bargain or even request to have their charges dropped. And the pro-gun crowd, who never tire of complaining about the lenient sentencing guidelines for criminals, applaud. At least they applaud as long as the offending gun owner can somehow claim to be one of the good guys. For them, just about anything goes, "bad rules be damned," is their expression.

Mike, you're just full of shit.

I'm as pro-gun as they come, but when someone commits a crime with a firearm, I want them put away. This is also the position of the NRA.

From the article, this Wintle guy is a nut case. Nothing in the description of his crime indicates to me that this was even close to a lawful use of a firearm. He was carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. Moreover, other articles on the web indicate he was known for "erratic behavior in the statehouse". His attorney says he had a "psychological illness".

This guy sounds like someone who is not mentally competent to be in possession of a firearm.

I don't think you'll find many pro-gun people applauding this guy's actions.

Moreover, I don't think you'll find anyone who is pleased that, once again, people in positions of power get off with a slap on the wrist whereas anyone else would have their ass landed in jail.

And if the guy goes too far, they simply cut him off and relegate him to the dark side of criminal gun owners.

Well that's sort of the way it works, at least here in America. You are innocent until proven guilty.

8. I am at a loss for words.
Not about whatever non existent point you're trying to make. But your persistence in the erection of the same tired canard strains my ability to produce an interesting way of describing what a pathetic, self promotional, slanderous piece of shallow, egotistical bullshit you have written.

I have to hand it to you. It takes real talent to insult so many people while avoiding responsibility for it or producing anything like support for your filthy slander. It is an accomplishment worthy of mention in the finest tradition red baiting, social back biting, wedge issue profiteering, corporate driven authoritarian claptrap.

I humbly bow before the breathtaking expanse of petty depravity that is the OP.

Unrec for more fucked up blog flogging bullshit.
