(Moran) Councilman Wants to Allow Guns in San Juan Capistrano Parks
Edited on Sun Jul-10-11 12:00 PM by jpak
http://blogs.ocweekly.com/navelgazing/2011/07/san_juan_capistrano_gun_parks.php

San Juan Capistrano's quaint downtown already looks like a throwback to the Old West.

Now, a city councilman would like the parks to be more that way, too.

But Derek Reeve is not talking about adding decorative cow skulls, wagon wheels or tumbling tumbleweeds to the Orange County mission city's parks. He wants to give visitors the right to pack guns.

As the Orange County Register reports, Reeve is an advocate of open-carry laws, city ordinances that allow folks to strap unloaded weapons onto their persons. Groups like the National Rifle Association (NRA) back open-carry, and Reeve loves him some NRA.

Gun Luv Stupidity like this is why California will ban open carry

yup

4. Unfortunately, that's not the case. But as has been pointed out here many times,
a firearm used properly gives an innocent victim a higher likelihood of coming out OK in many circumstances...

12. no one said that, but is safe to say that what you advocate would
ensure that the bad guy would always win.

13. How?
Armed citizens in a park means bad guys always win? I'm afraid I don't follow your assumption.

14. I was assuming that the person I was replying to was being
facetious. If he was, it would mean that he would want the good guy unarmed. If I read to much in to it, my bad.

5. How do you account for all the places
that allow concealed carry in parks now?

Colorado Springs has very progressive gun laws and we've only had 9 murders this year. We've also had a few incident where the would be victim stopped the crime because they had a gun

6. How do you account for 30,000 gun deaths per year?
and this....

Gun friendly red states - lotsa gun violence

Reasonable gun law blue states - not so much

7. 55 percent are suicides
Most homicides are business disputes between gangsters, which is true of Canadian and European gun violence. it is also misleading. How about comparing homicide rates and per capita? I hope your critical thinking skills in other areas are not as compromised.

I don't know what they teach in high school freshman comp these days, but in the 1970s, we were taught never take any advocacy group seriously and using one as a source in an essay lost points.

10. So you're ignoring my question
Seriously jpak I live in a city w/ rather liberal gun laws ( not as good as they could be but not bad) and we don't seem to be killing each other.

How do you account for that?

As the other poster mentioned a good portion of your 30,000 are sucides. many of the rest a criminal on crimal (small loss).

If guns are so evil why should you be allowed to own one?

15. Typical antigun tactic.
Dilute the gun violence statistics in places where it exists by lumping it in with the rest of the places in a state where it doesnt.

Did you REALLY think nobody would notice?

Really?

16. I'm going to have to call bullshit for just too many reasons
I'll tackle just one.

Washington state has perhaps some of the most permissive laws on the carrying of guns AND the use of force. We have one of the highest concentrations of concealed carriers--higher than Texas, and probably still higher than Florida if one factors OUT the many out of state resident licenses.

We're Gun Nut Central!

Yet Washington is very blue and the murder rate here is 2.7 per 100K meaning Washington ranks #35--but I'm excluding the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. If they were included, and they are in Table 5 of the FBI UCR, Washington would be #37 because DC and PR would be #1 and #2, respectively.
