Firearms from "Project Gunwalker" found in Phoenix...

Weapons linked to controversial ATF strategy found in Valley crimes
Posted: 06/30/2011

PHOENIX - Weapons linked to a questionable government strategy are turning up in crimes in Valley neighborhoods.

***snip***

The ABC15 Investigators uncovered documents showing guns connected to at least two Glendale criminal cases and at least two Phoenix criminal cases also appear in the ATF’s Suspect Gun Database, a sort-of watch list for suspicious gun sales.

***snip***

In the August case, Phoenix officers conducted a traffic stop near 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix. They discovered marijuana and an AK-47 in the driver’s trunk as well as other weapons.

One of the suspects explained he purchased the Romarm/Cugir Draco weapon for $600 on the street, but he wouldn’t reveal from whom he purchased the gun. ATF documents show the weapon had been entered into the ATF Suspect Gun Database in January 2010.

1. Just another hit piece by local media trying to
justify SB1070 and the portraying of all Hispanics as drug running weapon carrying criminals.

It's become so transparent here.

Gunrunning scandal uncovered at the ATF
February 23, 2011 6:54 PM

CBS News)

WASHINGTON - Keeping American weapons from getting into the hands of Mexican gangs is the goal of a program called "Project Gunrunner." But critics say it's doing exactly the opposite. CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports on what she found.

December 14, 2010. The place: a dangerous smuggling route in Arizona not far from the border. A special tactical border squad was on patrol when gunfire broke out and agent Brian Terry was killed.

Kent, Brian's brother, said "he was my only brother. That was the only brother I had. I'm lost."

The assault rifles found at the murder were traced back to a U.S. gun shop. Where they came from and how they got there is a scandal so large, some insiders say it surpasses the shoot-out at Ruby Ridge and the deadly siege at Waco.

The story keeps growing and growing. Now it looks like ATF agents in Tampa were aiding gun running to Honduras.

Virginia O’Brien, Special Agent in Charge at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Tampa Field Division, ran a gun-running investigation that was walking guns to Honduras using the techniques and tactics identical to Fast and Furious, it was reported to these correspondents this evening via private correspondence from a proven credible source.

The article in the OP points out that a percentage of these firearms will end up on American streets and never make it to Mexico.

In my opinion, both American and Mexican citizens should be infuriated by any program that allows buyers to straw purchase firearms in order to sell them to Mexican drug cartels and also to criminals inside the United States and loses track of those firearms . There is an excellent possibility that other agencies such as the FBI and the DEA were involved in this faulty scheme. As taxpayers, we may even have paid for these firearms.

Justice Department Obstructing 'Fast and Furious' Gun Probe, ATF Director Says
By William Lajeunesse

Published July 06, 2011

The Justice Department is obstructing the congressional investigation of a U.S. law enforcement operation intended to crack down on major weapons traffickers on the Southwest border, according to the embattled leader of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Ken Melson, the acting director of the ATF, lobbed the accusation when he sneaked in for an interview with congressional investigators on July 4, two days ahead of his scheduled interview with the inspector general about the operation known as "Fast and Furious," Fox News has learned.

In a separate development, congressional sources have learned that not only was U.S. taxpayer money being used to buy guns that were later sent to Mexico, but the main target of the investigation was actually a FBI informant and former drug dealer who had been deported years ago.emphasis addedemphasis added

The alleged coverup involves three law enforcement agencies: the ATF, FBI and the DEA, or Drug Enforcement Administration.

I understand your feeling concerning the unfair portrayal of Hispanics especially undocumented workers. For years I have supported changing our immigration policy to permit more workers to legally come to the United States. I want to see these workers fully protected by the laws of our nation and not abused or taken advantage of by their employers.

The problem is that the Republican Party sees undocumented workers as a cheap source of labor which actually means a new slave class. Our own party views undocumented workers as potential voters. Therefore we never change our immigration policy and hard working Mexicans suffer as a result.

5. It always amazes me that any mention of "Project Gunwalker" rarely ...
gets any response from those who favor gun control.

I can only hope that they too are upset at our own government allowing the straw purchase of firearms that the agencies involved knew would end up in criminal hands either in Mexico or in the United States.

If they are not upset then they are hypocrites.

They laughed at the concept of the "2nd protecting the 1st", maybe they're not laughing now. One can hope.

8. Could care less
Most of those rabidly in favor of more gun control could care less about this and view this story a mere roadblock to their dreams of confiscation.

9. They usually like to 'dance in the blood' of vicitms
But while many of them are trying to quietly step over this massive puddle of blood, others are quickly trying to mop it up hoping no one notices..

Issa's got the luminol, there's no hiding this crime.
